Default Power inverter connected to battery, battery charger plugged into inverter...

Battery charger hooked to battery...

Indefinite power while vehicle is not running? Or fire hazard?

The battery would eventually go flat due to loss in the lines.

Clearly you've never taken a physics class. As the circuit is closed, the transmission lines heat up, meaning more energy in the system as the battery charges itself. It's free energy.

Not to mention you can cook food from the heat produced. Extra energy. And hot food!

would the inverter provide enough amps to run a 12 volt charger? maybe one of those top-off style chargers.

Reminds me of when I hear husbands explain to their wives that the fans (simple artwork) in our tunnel generate the electricity to run the trains. Yes, that's it mister know-it-all traveler. We here at DIA have invented the world's first perpetual motion machine and refuse to share our secrets with the world. Muaaahaaahahaha.

Should add a line booster at both ends. You've just invented a new bomb, congratulations!

You should work on that DEI (Direct Exhaust Injection) idea that Vette guy came up with. Sounds promising.

So.. is this possible? I have a 40 amp charger that pulls about 9 amps to run. I hooked it to a 6 cell battery bank on my solar/wind setup using the inverter and the volts slowly went down. However, the batteries were rather low to begin with.

So.. again.. can this work? Can I put a charger on an inverter that is running off batteries to charge the batteries?

Oh my god....i dont mean to be mean but wtf dude. Are you still working on your GED or something? I think everyone deserves to be able to ask stupid questions and all but i can tell you have thought about this one and still thought it was a awesome idea.

I should add that i thought about a solar panel under a light bulb and asked about it in 7th grade. I was young and my brain was turning but i was lucky to have my teacher explain it to me

The reason that nobody thinks this will work is because the energy industry has been suppressing technology like this for decades. If you decide to hook up a battery to a charger/inverter, make sure you don't advertise it on the internet or else you may be getting a visit. Keep thinking for yourself and innovating - and don't let the big corporate guys and their "thermodynamics" hold you back.

You don't happen to have a fondness for facepaint, Faygo soda and crystal meth, do you? Because this is the sort of question I would expect from that crowd.

Have you ever violated the laws of thermodynamics . . . on weed?

Alternate:
Violating the law of conservation of energy isn't normal . . . but on meth it is.

Dude, you should totally, like, put a windmill on an electric car, so as you drive, it, like charges the batteries from the wind blowing over the car as you go down the road! So the car would go forever.. man!

In all reality, the 40A charger that draws 9A? That's 9A at 120v and 40A at 12v, which is a bit different. The math doesn't work in my head, but I think optimistic output ratings are probably at fault.

This will work, but just MAKE SURE you invert the polarity of the circuit by putting the positive clip of the charger on the negative terminal of the battery and the negative clip on the positive terminal. Also, it will only work if you are wearing argyle socks and reciting the alphabet backwards while hooking up the terminals.

I thought you had to submerge the battery in water to get this to work due to the heat generated?
