I think it looks really good. Way better than the 08-present models.

seeing as they located the turbo down below with the 2.0l... (not sure if this is an FA? type but i think it might be similar) will the BRZ also sport something similar for an STI variant? i wonder. Also, if you look at what crawford did to the 2.0L brz in terms of turbo/power etc, those little 2.0's are kick ass and respond VERY well to boost.

Looks like someone stuck a Briggs & Stratton lawnmower engine there... Subaru: stop putting that ugly plastic cover on the engine.

I love all versions of the WRX and STI except 08-10.. But I truly dislike the 2015. Also seems like the WRX and BRZs will be on even playing field as far as stage upgrades

Any chance they relocated the spark plugs to the top?

LOL!

Every single WRX release thread reads exactly the same. Most hate it till they love it.

Personally I'm just glad Subaru is still giving us the turbo performance cars we BEGGED for.

For those wondering about why it looks so subdued compared to the concept:

It was once explained to me that concept cars are always designed to be watered down later. They are never intended to be taken seriously. The company intentionally goes overboard with exaggerated features, then listens to consumer feedback on what they liked, didn't like , and goes from there.

For example let's say they next WRX concept comes with 24 inch rims and a comically large front grill. The hardcore enthusiasts may like both features but the company knows it's a little too extreme for their usual buyer.

So Subaru keeps both designs but dials it back a bit to please both sides. Hence, we always get a diluted version.

The same applies to the fashion industry. Nobody ever expects people to wear the insane Lady Gaga style crap that models walk down the runway. But it serves as a testing ground for the possibilities of the imagination.

To the subject at hand: I'm a little torn on the looks of this model. It definitely is more "sleeper" than its predecessor generations, which I like. But I wish it was more unique looking and reminiscent of its rally roots. Maybe it's time for a throwback nod to the bugeye or 90's models, like Ford did with the last two generations of Mustangs.

I wish they'd get rid of the fake air splitters in the fog light covers, though. That's pretty tacky and reminds me of the false midsection on the Focus ST's grill.

Default WRX release

Its embarrassing for Subaru to release something so far from the concept car they were showing everywhere in the world, and on their own website. WOW what an incredible disappointment. Even worse I talked my wife into selling her pristine 2007 STI in anticipation of ordering a 2015. If the STI version is just the wrx with a spoiler, and a different front bumper I will probably order an MR EVO.

What's more embarrassing, Subaru not making the production car as edgy and attractive as the concept, or you believing they actually would and selling your 07 in anticipation that Subaru would done something they've NEVER done before?

I've seen the concept in the flesh, and this, doesn't do it justice. This is more like a Corolla, and if in doubt, here it is. Subaru needs to go back to its roots. And it if doubt, here it is next to a Corolla.

I saw the new WRX and Corolla yesterday.... They look nothing like each other... Some need to have their eyes checked

Thanks Ricochet for this your pictures and report, your Subaru enthusiast status help cut through all the fluff of the typical "2015 WRX report"

Anyone who has seen this car...the C&D report said it has 12.4" front brakes (presumably the good ol LGT rotors) with "opposed pistons" but it does look from the pictures I have seen they are regular old sliders?

Seems handling was the big focus here, many of the improvements on the chassis with bushings, bars, steering ratio etc. seem like any of those are things a WRX owner would want to do with their current WRX. So when does RCE start on the Bilsteins ha

I predict it will be popular, they have addressed the perceived shortcomings of the previous model. With an aggressive looking front end, slightly squishier interior, and 6 speed I think they will remove some obstacles to purchase that many appeared to have had.

Subaru tradition:

Design the new model as ugly as possible, only surpassed by its successor.

Just get used to it. In 4 years, the next model will be even worse, and the tradition continues. Don't knock it till you try it.

Eh, I think the styling of the car looks pretty good personally. (That said beauty is always in the eye of the beholder) My main issue with the car is that there isn't a hatchback option planned yet. I'm also slightly disappointed that it isn't really any quicker in a straight line than the current car.

The looks aren't amazing but that's not really what I care about. What I do care about is performance. And 5 door. Subaru, y u no build 5 door!? I hope the STI gets a 5 door again by the time I start thinking about replacing mine, and a little power upgrade would be nice too.
