Default Got some crap stolen. Is there something wrong with the '02 wrx trunk latch?

So I was parked on the street over near Fenway Park last night and I went to a movie. Came out and didn't notice anything wrong until I put my stereo in the dash and no sound came out. Uh oh. I opened the trunk only to find that it was empty...

My custom sub box and 2 amps were neatly stolen from my trunk with no damage done to the trunk, latch or bumper area. So here is my question:

Is there a problem with the trunk latch or some other part that makes it very easy to open without damaging anything? and is there a fix to this?

I think that when I redo my sub and amp system that I will make it very stealth and bolt it to the car.

bastards.

I would have pulled back the driver's window and used a hook to pull the trunk release lever. Never heard any issues with the trunk latch, but I don't own a rex so how would I know.

The WRX Frameless windows can be bent back nice and easy to get to the lock and or trunk latch with a long enough tool.

If your alarm was on it should have been set off by the trunk... if not then they could have popped it by bending your window back.

Please tell me you called the police immidiatly

Note to Mods: If this is deemed TMI go ahead and delete it but AFAIK its pretty much general knowledge about the windows on the WRX

just like the windows in a mustang...

My dad's cobra had several places you could see something was stuck in there to try to pry it back.

Check the edges of your windows, if they pryed the window there should be a little chip/dent in the glass along the edge.

Same thing happened to me in Seattle. I bought some clothes, put them in the trunk, went to dinner with a friend and then drove home. Upon opening trunk, nothing was there. I filed a police report right after, but of course the police aren't going to care about a couple hundred bucks worth of clothes.

Good to know that maybe someone else had the same issue...

Lots of people get there locks popped out really easy on some of the imprezas. All in all though its an easy car to steal. I have a microwave sensor in mine to detect motion inside the vehicle so even if the wondows are down it gets set off if anyone even reaches inside.

where your fuel door is, that is our trunk lever, and the fuel door lever is INSIDE the trunk lever ... if that makes any sense .... hard to describe without seeing it, and i don't feel like taking pics

This almost makes me want to disconnect the remote lever and just use the key to get in the trunk.

Maybe, we should see if some of the creative types could create some sort of "cover" to slide over the tunk/fueldoor release latches? That'd actually be a cheap and easy security mod. Sorta scary to know your trunk could be looted so easily.

I have a dual zone prox on my alarm though...that helps too.

Thats pretty cool acutally. Does that mean you have less false alarms? Because the only way to set it off is something is moving inside?

OR ... if you were concerned about it at any given time, you could just flip the security switch already provided on the trunk latch release.

It's already there peeps! Go look and figure it out.

Well I have the shock sensor turned almost all the way off so really you have to open the door break a window or something inside has to be moved. But like if the windows are cracked a bit or something the wind can blow something thats inside IE a piece of paper and I will get a false that way but that is the only one I have had.

so the valet switch on the trunk latch will make it so you can open the trunk with the key but not with the latch? How would that stop a valet from getting into your trunk, since they have the key anyway?

It would definitely be effective in this situation though.

Ah, that may be, then it would all make sense. I didn't realize there was a different key. I got mine used and i got a spare key but i think it's the same as the main one. I guess i never really checked... hmm
