clutch pressure plate & uneven wear
I straightedged, my low-milage pressure plate friction surface, and it was uneven- I would have to say its concaved in, and looks like its got more wear on the inner diameter than on the outer diameter of the friction surface.
______ \ / basically looking like the above, except the above is exaggerated. What I dont understand is this, I installed a new clutch but didnt get my flywheel surfaced, so when I pulled the clutch disc, it was worn on the outer edges, so basically the friction disc has worn down unevenly as well. Does this make sense? IBalwaysreplacebothdiscandpressureplate

always replace both the disc and pressure plate.
So what you're saying is that you're confused as to why the inner edge of the pressure plate is worn, but the outer edge of the friction disc is worn? You said it was low mileage....if you could still see the machining marks in it when you replaced it it might have been new enough to warrant not resurfacing (though that's never really recommended). If not, I can only imagine that that you experienced quite a bit of clutch chatter. Are you running the small center-diameter OEM 02 organic clutch? ...with your 12 second EJ22T? |

no it was an exedy stage 1 organic clutch. And although I know one should always replace both, the last time I was doing the swap I got the transmission geared differently as well, and during the process I should've had my flywheel surfaced but didnt.(forgot among the other things I was doing)
so the uneven wear was quite visible on the clutch disc, but I figured a low mileage pressure plate might be ok to re-use, but that just isn't the case. Straightedging the friction plate on the P.P. showed a concave type of wear on it. So I was just trying to make sure that it should be perfectly flat, and I wasn't losing it. |

What you are seeing is not wear. The pressure plate and flywheel always become concave when overheated because the heat warps the surfaces in this manner. You can have a 200K mile pressure plate and it may be totally flat or you can warp it just like yours in a manner of a couple launches if you slip it enough.
