locating fuel leak and re-routing fuel lines
The smell of gas under my hood "suggests" that I have a problem. I have not been able to locate its source.
Perhaps someone can offer some suggestions. The fuel system was plumbed in parallel fashion by a reputable Subaru engine builder using Vishnu rails and braided hose . There is a tee connection located under the intake manifold which I cannot reach or see in order to determine if it's the source of the leak. Is there a safe and reliable way of locating a fuel leak? The present location of the fuel lines makes them difficult to reach should I have a need in the future. If I have to pull the fuel lines out from under the intake manifold in order to check them, is there any reason why I shouldn't relocate them above the manifold? I've checked some engine bay pics and haven't seen visible fuel lines in any of them. I would have thought that it would be aesthetically preferable to display braided lines. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Chris

My braided lines run under the manifold... *shrug*
The best way to check for fuel leak is to look for puddled fuel or yellow stains. It's fairly quick and painless to remove the alternator, which will let you see/access everything under the manifold. |

Having a bunch of fuel lines running crzily around the top of your manifold might not aesthitically enhancing, but you could probably do it if you wanted to. You might however, be required to lengthen the lines from their present disposition in order to run them there.
