Interesting Carfax report...
So, this is my car:
Date: Miles: 04/02/1998 25 11/21/2001 98,114 12/20/2001 98,186 09/10/2002 98,515 02/19/2003 98,526 02/21/2003 98,538 1st owner 04/02/1998 New York 2nd owner 12/17/2001 Colorado 3rd owner 02/19/2003 Colorado <-- Me 01/21/2001 New York Police Report Case #1-125986 Accident Reported in Westchester County Vehicle involved in crash with another motor vehicle 11/21/2001 98,114 Auto Auction Sold at auction in Eastern Region Listed as a dealer vehicle 12/17/2001 Colorado Motor Vehicle Dept. Denver, CO Title #023370 Title issued New owner reported 12/20/2001 98,186 Colorado Inspection Station Passed emissions inspection 09/10/2002 98,515 Colorado Inspection Station Passed emissions inspection 02/19/2003 98,526 Colorado Motor Vehicle Dept. Longmont, CO Title #048934 Title issued New owner reported So apparently it just sat around for a year, doing nothing. Carfax says 3 owners, so me being the 3rd, the dealer I bought it from was the 2nd? And just had it sitting in the lot? I mean, 400 miles from 2001 until I bought it is kind of a small amount.

Sounds like it might have been "totalled" by an insurance company or sold by the original owner because it was too expensive to repair and/or then sat around before being bought up (on my birthday nonetheless) by a wholesaler who repaired it, titled it in Colorado and it was sold to you by the dealer in Colorado and you titled it. I'd attribute the low mileage to it sitting around waiting to be repaired after the accident, transportation from NY to CO and a soft car market.

Possible, but I doubt it. Looking at where the repairs were made, all I can see is the right front fender. Everything else, even around the area, looks original.

I know people that have pulled fuses so the miles don't register on the odometer. Nothing I would ever do, but that could also explain the few miles put on in that amount of time.

I sent the dealership an email(had spoken with the salesman heavily via email, coming from Japan and all). Was told it was at their other store that they closed due to lack of business, and they didn't advertise it their. So looks like they bought it, and didn't care that much to sell it I guess. I doubt it has more miles than is recorded, just by the interior condition(near flawless).

One thing to look at is CO title policy. If you can take a "SALVAGE" title from another state and then title the car in CO as a clean title an under handed car dealer could make some big money. Buying a car that went through an East coast auto auction with some body damage is something that I am too familar with...don't ever mention the word "Jaguar" around me or my wife!
If you have any worries, just take it to a good auto shop and see what it would cost you to have them check to see if it has been hit/fixed etc. The other thing to look for is the VIN on all of the body panels...do they all match up? Almost all parts of newer cars have the original VIN on them, hell, even the rear hatch of my wagon has a VIN sticker on it. Best of Luck, Tim |

Yea, I noticed that. I was inspecting my car on the lift doing an oil change(for some things, the military is great), and I kept running across the VIN. Struck me as odd at first, but that's only cuz I haven't seen it before. If I remember right, the bumper had the VIN, so the damage wasn't major. Looks like just the fender, and I can live with that(not that I have a choice, I own the car now).
