i have changed to a forum based website so please rather use that. go back to the main page (www.tari.co.za), press Ctrl-F5 for a full page refresh and then click on the text. you will be taken into the new forum stuff where you will see the groups for the different software, etc.
egt's - i cant really offer any solid advice on this since as i havent owned a scoob with a stock egt sensor fitted. all i can say is that whatever value its showing is most likely coming directly from the ECU and therefore its the ECU that isnt changing it. we can verify this with some port sniffing, email me and i'll let you know how to do this. calvin. |

For those of you that have already done some logs. What is the higest and lowest reading on the Knock Correction your're seeing? Better said, what is acceptable for knock correction and what would be considered a value that some tuning might help? I realize that knock correction values logged will tell more if I knew what my IAM was, but we're all waiting on that value to be added in.

Have you seen this? http://www.ecutek.com/tuning/diagnostics/
I haven't seen anything other than 0's on my '05 WRX with a Cobb stage 1 93 map. BTW, we should take any more discussion of DL1 to the dedicated forum at http://www.tari.co.za/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl |

Can't belive I actually missed that on EcuTek's webpage. Anyway, after some reading I've discovered that I was interpreting KC incorrectly. All is good.

JRSC,
I have a run with Knock Correction values from 0 up to 6. They appear to be at periods of heavy boost and wide throttle opening. Not necessarily at maximum RPM... |

If the Cobb cable loses contact with the odbII port will it cause any issuse other than an error? Wanted to try the software but my Cobb cable loses conection sometimes when reading boost levels.

1) Turn ignition off then on and try again. 2) Get a replacement cable and try again. 3) Send in your ECU + Laptop to have them both replaced only to get them back and they still won't talk to each other. Sorry, couldn't resist. But seriously now... no, it won't do anything bad. It'll just loose communication. That's all. |

Can you log EGT'S with this software or will it be possible with latter versions?

Folks say this is not accurate because it is in the up-pipe (pre-turbo), and so the back pressure causes a drop in accuracy. They also say it is only/mainly used by the ECU for something to do with the cat.. probably cat efficiency or something. I would be very very very curious to see someone post logs of the stock EGT alongside an aftermarket EGT probe, to see how they differ. My logs show a peak of about 1525*F EGT, and this was at 3k rpm and 12.8psi boost, so it may be somewhat accurate.. I wouldn't tune based off of it though, at least not until folks show logs comparing it to a real probe. HTH! Adrian |

Everything I've been reading on these forums makes it sound like the stock EGT probe is just there to ensure the uppipe cat doesn't melt. So it might only be sensitive enough to know the difference between "Oh ****" and "Everythings OK". |

Also, the probe is after the cat. So the fact that it's pretty far from the exhaust valve, plus after the cat makes it what you don't want to tune from. The temperature there will be different than near the head, and not always by the same amount. Cooler by distance, warmer by catalytic reaction. edit: I have no cat there and a VDO probe and gauge. A normal 70mph highway cruise is 1200F. Highest I ever saw was about 1450F today at 100mph (Pocono) with 94 octane. Last edited by stanton; 07-15-2005 at 09:31 PM. |
