Very clean install! This is great, but I feel like I would constantly have my phone on the charger. My gnex barely makes it past lunchtime, and I don't tether at all... How do you deal with your phones battery life with all that tethering (and google music streaming)?

I don't see any negatives
Question. Will you be using this for GPS in the future? How will you be giving the Nexus a GPS signal? I know that none GPS equipped Ipads wont allow you to use the more adavnced GPS apps without a jailbreak, not sure about the Nexus.

Didn't think about that.

To be honest, I have not really noticed any drop of battery... I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with GNex if it doesn't make it to lunch! Mine makes it 1.5 days no problem...

Nexus 7 has full built-in GPS, does turn by turn navigation with voice prompts using Google Navigation, lowers the music while it speaks, etc. Really blows other GPS systems out there!

cant do this with Iphone/nexus correct?

You can setup the navigation inside a wifi area then leave wifi and google navagation will still talk and do turn by turn but will not re-route.

I guess its time to drop apple, pick up a Note 2 and forget about buying an indash navi system.

Just have to wait out that 2 year agreement or stop buying car parts

i was thinking about what route to go with getting internet to the tablet.

i like the mobile hot spot in the car at all times! didnt think of that.

i was gunna either just get a 4G ipad mini, or my phone is a mobile hotspot (but dont wanna leave the hotspot on all day and drain the battery when not needed and then have to activate it every time i get the car)

Question: i thought i read some where but cant remeber the answer, does the GPS work on an ipad if its just a wifi ipad getting internet from a hotspot?

If i recall correctly if your using a wifi only ipad that is not jailbroken you wont even be able to download GPS apps. I used a little bluetooth gps addon thing from a company called Dual Electronics that allowed me to get gps.

i have researched the wifi only ipads using a mobile hotspot and driving around using the navigation app...

basic answer is it wont work that way.

ways it will work, if you have an cellular enabled ipad and pay for the data service like through verizon or att. That works perfect

or if you already have or buy a cellular enabled ipad WITHOUT the data service activated. Then have a mobile hotspot, then the navigation apps with work.

The wifi only ipads dont have the GPS chip/antenna in them.

so like the post above you can get a external GPS modular, a wifi only ipad, and a mobile hotspot and that will work.

so after all the different scenarios and some math...

i want an ipad mini. so it would be more cost effective to purchase a new ipad mini with 4g service and add it to my current verizon plan.

but say you already have a ipad or ipad mini wifi only.. it prob be cheaper to buy the external GPS modular and get a mobile hotspot

the mobile hotspots are fairly cheap unit and 20 bucks a month add on to existing plan (verizon)

vs buying a 16 gig ipad mini 4G LTE is lots of monies, but its only 10 bucks a month to add to existing plan (verizon)

so xmas gift to my self = ipad mini

Backup camera wouldn't work. Tablets and other devices don't allow video in (external backup camera works try to send video into tablet) mostly just video out unless rooted etc.

so i got my nexus tablet tethered to my iphone( works great for gps so far)

Question for everyone doing this.

How are you doing the input into your factoy/aftermarket Stereo?

Sadly my pioneer deh-6700mp does not have aux in on the front.

i do have the ipod adapter on the stereo and could buy an adapter to plug into that, that then plugs a rca/mini jack into it. This seems like the long way around and it would just be easier to go and grab a new pioneer reciever that takes aux in.

another question.

With the tablet hooked up to the stereo it will only lower the music for navigation if i am running the music from the tablet correct? i will not lower regular radio? instead of using aux in and i connect it with bluetooth will it lower all music that is playing no matter the source?

Thanks for the help guys. this sure does beat putting downb $$ on an indash pioneer navigation system and allows more go fast bits

Is your iphone jailbroken? And what apps are you using to do so?

is there a way to run a USB input into the glovebox or area in front of the shifter or wherever so that in the event you're driving somehwere without the best cell service you could plug in a thumb drive full of mp3's and still have tunes?

I gues running a USB-in into the nexus or the headunit???...also, dimensions wise, anyone know off-hand if this would be possible in an '03 wrx?

How do you get to the power button on the Nexus 7 once that power is completely out?

There's no access to the power button right now. The goal is that the power should never completely go out

I know it's possible to externalize the power button but I'm not sure my soldering skills are up to snuff for that yet.

How is your head unit set back far enough to allow room for the N7? And is is mounted to anything or just sitting on top of the vents?
