no vanity lights, cheap rear cup holder (05), and compared to the UK WRX.....cheap brakes, wheels, and foglights.

Some small things.

The tires, radio, and sound deadening are all inexpensive and help defray a little of the extra cost of the AWD hardware over Honda and Toyota. It's a heck of a car for $23K, but it could be better. The tranny is good but not bullet proof.

#1 cheapola crap = front windsheilds. I've never owned a car that has a front windshield that cracks/chips so easily. Complete crap.

As someone has already mentioned ... Stereo (the entire thing).

Drive train is bullet proof. If your blowing tranny's, you drive like an idiot, or have WAY more HP than it was designed to handle.

I think they skimp out on tires, headliner, carpeting, battery, and paint, also the glass on the winshield

Subaru hasn't been known for their interiors. They have greatly improved that in the 05's and will probably further increase in the future.

There are many features that the US doesn't get compared to the rest of the world. Especially the 4 pots.

only the STi has a "bullet proof" transmission as you put. Yet, even it is not idiot proof.

second the paint...in both quality and color selection

You guys are cracking me up.

1. The windshield issue - from what I've been told, the windshield isn't cheap, the problem is that the windshield is placed very tightly in to the car. Flexing in the chassis or rocks can chip it, then cause the crack/chip to grow.

2. The tires, while sucky, are not cheap.

3. Hood dents? IT IS ALLUMINUM. It's a soft, light metal. It's not cheap - it's a $600 part.

Even though the interior may not be fancy, it sure is durable. I really like the interior on my car because I know it will last for a long ass time. I'd say Subaru is cheap on the paint, and it may not be cheapness so much as poor application processes.

at the bottom of my front doors i have numerous paint chips from driving in gravel/sanded roads. it really makes me mad to have a shiny red car and then half of my paint gone on my lower doors.

The door skins are very cheap on the 04s. Everything seems to scratch easily. Also defroster is weak.

I would say ... rear seats, not that I care, but they're nothing impressive. Stereo is awful, and they charge for the spoiler on the WRX.

Everything that's actually important (minus the stereo) seems to be of good quality.
