WRX or WRX STI? Another pointless, tragic loss of life. Watch them be a little more aggressive with police there.

Why are you getting mad at the reporter? He/She was publishing what information (lack there of) was given the him/her. I'm sure their boss told them to report this and didn't give much time to properly investigate the incident.

And anyone who is speeding is not smart IMO. Anything can happen no matter how skilled a drive you might be.

It appears it was an 18 year old driving a 2005 WRX STI. Stupid parents.

I saw the cross and the skid marks on the way to work today. He crossed the median on a straight part of Higgins, no idea what happened.

Also just found out that my friend works with the GF of the kid.

I would just like to say that judgeing fromt he picture that you can see the front end of the car over the red car I would say the car is a 04-05 Imrpeza. I can see the hood and by zooming in on the pic I do NOT see a hood scoop. I do see a black hood so maybe it is a modifed hood but still just want to say that.

Im 18 and have a wrx. But I took driving school, and a few other various programs to help me drive better and know how to react in bad situations. It's sad the kid died...However, chances are, he wasen't being responsible as many aren't.

Thats a bs comment, why is it the parents fault. Im 19 drive a wrx thats quicker than an sti and you saying my parents are stupid. Some people just dont learn there is a time and place if you want to have fun. This is very sad, and why jump to conclusions. Just because he was 18 doesnt mean he was doin something stupid, just like rallymaniac said what if a deer popped out or he blew a tire?

Deer are generally most active around dusk and dawn. The odds of one being out in the open at noon are pretty slim.

Funeral service today for 18-year-old crash victim from Des Plaines
By Ames Boykin
Daily Herald Staff Writer
Posted Tuesday, August 29, 2006

Kevin Roman had wrapped up his first exams after two weeks of mechanics school.

Leaving a voice message for his father, the 18-year-old Des Plaines man said he had finished his tests early at Universal Technical Institute in Glendale Heights. He was headed home about 11 a.m. Friday.

He also left a message for his girlfriend of six months, telling her he loved her.

Minutes later, Roman’s blue 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI crossed the short median on Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village, crashing into another car going the other direction. Police cited his high speed as a cause of the crash.

Roman died immediately after the fiery crash. A woman in the car he hit suffered multiple broken bones.

Kevin Roman

Family and friends today will remember the teen. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Evangelical Free Church of Des Plaines, 55 W. Golf Road, Des Plaines. Funeral services will begin at 6 p.m.

Roman, a 2005 Elk Grove High School graduate, loved cars, his friends and music — not necessarily in that order, said his 21-year-old sister, Bonny Roman.

Just recently, the teenager had taken an interest in the music of the late Johnny Cash after seeing “Walk the Line,” a movie about the singer’s life.

“He had the biggest heart. Literally, he loved everything,” Bonny Roman said. “He loved everybody, and everybody loved him.”

He loved his cars, too. Besides the Subaru, he had another car in the garage at home that he liked to work on. Two weeks ago, he started classes to become a mechanic.

His Subaru wasn’t “souped-up” as police initially reported, his sister said.

“He loved that car. He wanted it just the way it was,” she said.

Survivors also include his parents, Modesto and Cecilia Roman; his 14-year-old brother, David Roman; and his girlfriend, Becky Gatwood.

no i don't, if you read my post you'll see "maybe a deer jumped out..." which is not a statement. I don't think anyone here knows the detalis and that's why we should not judge the kid. And we also don't know what the police claimed "high speed" was. YOu can do easily and safely 70mph on that road.

if he was doing the speed limit and either of these happened he should have been able to maintain control of his car.

The speed limit through Busse Woods on Higgins is 45. It used to be 50 a while back IIRC.
