Cobb CAI, Borla headers, Brullen cat-back, Unorthodox UD pulley, Cobb Spicy cams.
I did these modifications all at once, so I can't speak of each part's individual gains or losses.
First of all, let me say that I think the Borla header is a high quality unit, the bends are nice, the welds look strong, and I see no reason why under normal use there would be any worries of cracking. Cobb CAI - very nice looking, fits good, very light weight easy to install. A bit loud at WOT. Borla header - bolts right up, fit and finish is great. A little "pingy" at idle, probably due to the lack of heat/noise shielding. Unorthodox UD pulley - easy bolt on, much lighter than stock should be good for quicker revving because of light weight and spinning accessories slower. Slight dimming of lights at night at idle. Brullen cat-back - very high quality, not ricey looking, sound is subdued at idle and normal driving (medium sound exhaust) not overly load at WOT (can't hear it over the CAI) nice and rumbly at moderate acceleration. Sound reminds me of my brother-in-law's 911. You will need longer bolts for the mid-pipe to cat joint (mine didn't come with any, but I got it slightly used, maybe the new ones do) Cobb spicy cams - not a project for the uninitiated... This is as close as most people will ever want to come to major engine surgery. Instructions are good, the pics could be a little clearer though. Let me stress that you don't want to attempt this if you aren't comfortable with taking your engine apart. This is an interference engine, and if you screw something up, it could get VERY expensive. I had a slight teething problem with mine. (it's amazing how much better the engine ran after I pushed #2 and #4 plug wires all the way on, DUH!) Not the fault of the cams. Performance *(all butt dyno)* some loss of low end (what did you expect with these cams?) it doesn't FEEL like a lot. 3500 on up to redline is awesome, I have a hard time staying off the rev limiter in first now, it just comes up too quick. Absolutely no drop off in the higher revs like stock, just keeps pulling. Idle is almost as smooth as normal, very hard to tell the difference. No check engine light yet. I have to remind myself that this is a normally aspirated FOUR CYLINDER engine now, it doesn't feel like one. For comparison, I drove a V6 Avenger today (rated at 166hp). It felt slow. My old roomate used to have one when I first got my RS, and it felt about the same power wise, maybe slightly slower. The one I drove today (very nice condition, not ragged out) felt like a dog compared to my car now. (all noise, no go) I love my car now... I used to really like it.

Yeah I did it all myslef, took me about 2 days working in my spare time.
Yep, the car moves pretty good. It cost about $1900 for all. I saved for about a year for this stuff. |
