Check this out! A Do-It-Yourself Auto shop? For real?
Hey guys I just found this place called Your Dream Garage in Baldwin Park. It is a DIY Autoshop garage in LA. I was looking for this before but now it came to live. I think their rate is pretty reasonable. It might be a good place to work on my car. Did anyone try it out yet?

Ive seen a few of these around. They are really cool. Ive often thought about holding a tech-day at one, just have 10 people pool in a few bucks and slam out some installs.

I think it's a neat idea, but that's all it is. If I wanted to work on my car (I do all the time) I just go into my garage and do so. However I know there are many people that do not have access to a garage or there apartment complex dose not allow them to work on there sh**. Personally if I were to pay any money to rent a lift I would take it to a Suby specialist's shop and just have them do it.
In my eyes I just think its asinine to pay hard earned cash just to work on your own car (you know what I mean). |

we have auto hobby shops on military bases like this. way cheaper and it's always good, especially in the winter time.
things like impact wrenches, torches, welding equipment, engine hoists, paint booths are available along with staff, usually master mechanics to help you out. it's pretty cool to see this. they would make a killing in the northern states. |

They have one on MCAS Miramar, I take my car there all the time. Never thought twice about it and what a convenience it is until OP pointed out what a rarity it is. But it is nice, and much cheaper. I would say they have about 15-20 lifts, engine steam clean bay, tire mounter, balancing machine, and they'll even cut your rotors. Every tool available is pretty much at your disposal, you just pay for the time you spend in the bay. Oh, they also dispose of your fluids if your change you oil, tranny, or any type of hazmat if you do it there, pretty convenient.

yeah, 32nd street naval base has one on the dryside, the rates are very reasonable, even have over night, but the hours kinda suck i think like 10-6 and not open on tuesdays, or something, ive been there a few times, i like 6 dollars an hour for a lift, and whatever tools you need.

I went in yesterday on my way back to Arizona to do my oil. The guys in here are cool dudes and will help you out with whatever you're doing. They've got two lifts and plenty of "bays" if you wanna just work off jack stands. Minus tire equipment, which they're getting soon, everything you need is there: brake lathe, hoists, specialty tools, fluids, iPod dock at each bay so you can listen to music while working, gloves, eye pro, and again a helping hand if you need it. Compared to the military auto shops I've been to they're not as cheap, but its still reasonable. It may be a bit of a drive for some but if its close or you wanna drive, its worth checking out.
