Super-Chargers For Impreza's
Does anybody know of any super-charger kits available for the 2.5RS other than Rimmer? Are there any centrifugal super-charger kits that anybody is aware of? Does anybody on this forum have a Rimmer kit? I'd like to know what you think about it.

I have heard that current superchargers do not work as well as turbochargers.

I did search and found several forums about the Rimmer kit. I want to know if there are any other super-charger kits that anyone may be aware of.

None that Im aware of. TRI was supposedly developing one, so you might call them and ask what happening with that. Oh.. of course there is the *electric* supercharger (lol)

Someone needs to talk to Vortec to build a supercharger kit with an air/water intercooler for the Impreza. Did you see what they did for the Civic Si in the latest SCC? Max gain of 132.6hp and the power was still climbing. That's amazing! I think with this type of supercharger, the hp and torque on the 2.5RS would be tipping the 300hp range.

I dunno guys... I would think a turbo would definitely be the way to go as well. There's quite a bit of parasitic loss regardless of any supercharger you use and 4 Cylinders can use all the HP it can get. Granted the Supercharger might be easier and even cheaper to buy and set up, I think you would get the most benefit and customization single or twin turbo setup.
Just my 20/1000 of a dollar. |

Kev I have talked with them face to face and they said that if someone wants to fabricate it they will help but right now as far as import cars the Honda/acura crowd will get it from them first next from them is the B18 series and then the D16). I will be talking to them again here soon hopefully and will bring it up to see about the possiblity of getting maybe Trey or someone in contact with them about making one.

Yea, if someone could talk Cobb into getting together with Jackson Racing to develope a real, high-quaility super-charger kit, they could sell a thousand of them!!

I been researching this lately and to my knowledge in the states "sigh" the RIMMER is the only one being offered. I can tell you from the responses I go that its not a good company to do businees with, but those who even got screwd over a bit but got the chargers on--loved it. I still want to go this route. There is some being developed--but I dont know anymore than that.

I'd love to see Jackson Racing build a supercharger for Subarus, but I don't think it'll happen for one reason: Jackson's kits are built around Eaton roots-type blowers, and building a high-quality kit for a flat four motor using this type of blower would be difficult and expensive. A centrifugal supercharger kit would seem to be a better idea for packaging reasons. Both of Rimmer's roots-blower kits were a bit of a mess in my eyes. But if anyone can develop a clean, powerful kit, it's Jackson Racing.

Eaton has said they will give someone I know a supercharger and some plumbing if they will develop a supercharger kit for the 2.5. I am not going to reveal who it is at the moment. But I will talk to them this week and ask if they want me to say. They don't even know if it is going to work out or not. By the way, it is not Dale at Teague's Auto. I only say that so people won't start calling Dale saying that I said he was going to be working on a Supercharger Kit.

This would work for the 2.5?

Oh, you are right - it does say rimmer. The site says 2.5 engines work. Better contact MRT for more info.

If anyone is interested I've done a LOT of research into superchargers for Subarus. I've got the specs and calculations for a Vortech unit that their engineers speced out for me. I'm in no financial position to develop and sell a S/C kit and my engine isn't healthy enough to be the test mule. Lemme know, I can probably get the stuff scanned and emailed out. I decided on the centrifical Vortech unit because the centrifical units get better effeciency at high rpm and the unit is easier to package in the engine bay (but would still need a drive shaft).

CAPA indicates that their kit is made for 2.2 liter motors I emailed them a few months ago to see if they had any plans for a 2.5 kit, and never got an answer. They must have all the business they want. Their kit looks really clean and well-engineered though, it's too bad they don't do something for the 2.5.

That picture is of Rimmer's prototype supercharger kit. Since it was top mounted, buyers were given a hood bulge to account for the increased height of the engine/supercharger. That thing was god-awful ugly!! I'm guessing that people found the same problems with that early design that they found with the "refined" kit. But I could be wrong.

Force-one seems to be a viable alternative. We just need to get in contact with them. It looks like it could possibly bolt right in. Jackson racing has replied repeatedly that there are no plans for a 2.5rs supercharger application. They are more interested in charging the Honda CR-V (more interest they say). Vortech, rumor has it, started to charge an Impreza, but ran into problems and they no longer have a test car. I personally didn't see any Vortech chargers that would work quite right, but a friend of mine (one of two authorized Vortech installers in Utah) insists he could get it in there.

For future reference, if you right click on the pic you can see the address. Also do you have a Legacy 2.2? I don't think either of those kits will fit in an Impreza engine bay. And it's an Eaton positive-displacement S/C (like the original Rimmer) not a Centrifical unit. Tony |
