Queston on Air Lift kit for BRZ/FRS: ...clunking noises?
A few months back I had a shop in Dallas (very reputable for air installs) do my kit. Air Lift kit w/ Accuair, ...blah, blah. While being installed, I also added a plethora of Perrin goodies: Sway bars (F&R), endlinks, bushings, ...basically everything in their catalog. Upon delivery, he mentioned I would hear various noises, (1) the e-level doing it's thing. (2) some clunking, (3) some vibration from the tight tolerances of the "Kapsul" mount. Now here's where i'm concerned. The e-level i've become accustomed to, the vibration we fixed, ...BUT the clunking, clinking and such does not seem right. I'm very confident he know hoe to install these kits, as that's what he does for a living. he stated it is sometimes normal for these set ups, also could be due to the very rigid suspension. I've tried to fore-go this, but feel I need either a real explanation or a fix. It almost sounds like the strut tops aren't tightened all the way, but in know this is not the case. Obviously on smooth roads it's gone, but driving on rough streets is almost unbearable.
Help? thanks, Greg |

I'd contact Air Lift direct if you are having issues with their product. They have the best customer service in the industry. I'd be curious to know if they changed the length of the struts from how they were set from Air Lift. I know they can be lengthened or shortened with the threaded bracket on the bottom.

I too have some really annoying clunking sounds. I've checked everything and it's all installed correctly so I have no idea what it could be.
Mind you I have the following suspension mods...still the sound, sounds bad, not like stiff bad like breaking something bad:/ Front and rear sways endlinks rear subframe positive traction kit rear diff inserts lateral links bump steer kit ladder brace i forgot whatelse...lol |

Clunking in the suspension can be caused by a couple different things, assuming the installation was performed correctly:
Remember, as you add/remove air from the bags, the shocks piston is moving up/down with the upper mount of the strut. The GD/GG struts (front and rear) offer about 5.5" of stroke (travel), same for the GR fronts, whereas the GR rear's only have about 2.5" of travel. For ideal ride comfort, you want to be as close to mid-stroke as possible as your drive height. This can be achieved by using the formula in the installation manual to adjust the position of your lower bracket on the strut. If you do not have a pressure gauge, it is going to be much more difficult to troubleshoot. To truly fine tune your suspension, you need to see spring pressure, as it directly translates to spring rate. This is especially important for corner balancing! Again, please either post your tech questions in the technical section thread (link: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...7#post40824447), shoot me a PM, e-mail, or give us a call (802 735 2574). It has been made very clear by the forum moderators that they do not want to see technical questions in this thread, so we all need to do our part in keeping them happy I am more than happy to provide one on one assistance for anyone with questions, and for those looking for a community opinion, the technical thread has really been picking up lately! Hope that helps you all - please do not hesitate to PM / Call / E-mail with any additional questions! Cheers, John |

I hope so .
It may change I asked them to swap mounts and compressors so the compressors are touching in the center I want to do a drop down in the spare tire well, not loose the whole trunk as I have a meth tank and a audio integrations sub in the other corner . We will see what we can come up with . So far so good . |
