Angry Huge problem

Allright, I am almost done with my swap, it is a 1993 turbo motor into a 1997 legacy (my old motor decided to pick up a case of that rod-knock that has been going around).

Everything was going fine untill the last step, the intercooler.

I went ahead and sold the water to air leak-waiting-to-happen and bought a wrx intercooler. Problem is, not enough room.To fit it looks as if it would require me to cut into the fire wall.

Any ideas/helpful hints?

Or am I going to have to buy a wrx intake manifold?

Thanks in advance!

are you sure its rod knock
the Hydrolic Lash Adjuters can be very loud
i sold my air to water and bought a gc8 intercooler as i was convinced that the gda IC would never fit

I believe the AFI guys have a way to get the GD/GG IC to fit. I want to say that they cut off 1/4" of the throttle body and possibly massage the firewall.

Trim the Throttle body & the Intercooler until it clears the firewall. Might have to move the A/C line too. Or get an I/C that fits without trimming.

I agree with Downpipe...a front mount is a very nice option

You sold the AWIC in favor of an air to air unit Your reasoning makes no sense. Read some of the australian subaru boards and I DARE you to find an intercooler that leaked internally.

My swap is in progress and Ive turned down a few good deals on air to air units in favor of a water setup!

Check out http://bbs.legacycentral.org as we have fit a few different units including the WRX intercooler.

Thanks all of you!

Who are the "afi" guys again?

The reasoning behind it was, I wanted the capacity for a bolt on bov.

if you do use a wrx intercooler you can't use a bolt on bov as they won't clear the throttle linkage..

you are correct sir.

I gave up trying to get my WRX IC to fit and sold it. I used a Saab 900 modified IC for about 8 months.
Now I have a nice little FMIC

Actually, you are both wrong in my case, the txs bov had no problem clearing it. But thank you for your input. I doubt I'll be in the market for a fmic any time soon. Especially not a really cool "ARGH" edition .
