Default High Flow cat pass aircare??

Has anybody tried passing aircare with ONLY a high flow down pipe cat? such as Cobb or MRT? Daddys? (no uppipe, dp, or midpipe stock cat)

Is this for a 2003 RS or for a WRX?

I seriously doubt that I can past Air Scare in the current form (high flow cat, 3" TBE for a car that is classified with 2.5L NA emission)

well, fill it with 94 octane and make sure it's running hot... there's also something my bud told me you can add to it to make it burn temporariliy cleaner.. unfortunatley i can't remember what it's called....i'll ask him.

Check for my post in the next few weeks.
I'm running Cobb turboback with a single high flow cat and stage II mapping.

So what are the tips for passing?
1) 94 octane
2) run the car hard to keep temps up? (how do you deal with the line up when there?)

Anything else? For example, which ECU mapping should I run? Stock or Stage II?

Prehaps run the economy map? ..since less fuel burned eqauls less emission produced

Stage 2 has higher EGT's than stock (w/o cats already) -- if you run stage 2 with stock cats, you're gonna start heating up the turbo and the cats. Negligible? I wouldn't say so.

I wont be aircaring till next year -- but since you're still running stock turbo and injectors - maybe put the DP back in and put it to a stock or low boost (valet) REALtime map. -- that way you dont lose what your ecu learned in stage 2. Valet mode also keeps boost down = temps down.

edit: They probably wont even boost it during the test -- but it's just for safety of exhaust system and turbo, I guess.

What I find today is that it will run super rich under load and I'm getting Air-Scared come Sep. Need to lower the overboost fuel cut and start leaning out the map off boost. Front O2 complained being too rich..

kgb: Your kit runs very rich for safety concerns. Once you have the time and money, just throw it down to Portland and get a dyno tune and they can definately make your kit rnu a little smoother. Front O2 should cause a CEL.

or you can throw it up to squamish and get a smooth tune for 94 even

(by the guys who have OEM'd maps for certain seattle, portland and LA 'shops with dynos')

you can pass aircare with just one cat but I cant speak to other people's tunes

I think your studded snowtire idea is the best one so far.

You should rent sets out for one day at a time.

I curious about this topic too.....
I have a 02 WRX and I've got an sti uppipe, gutted down pipe, stock 3rd cat, Blitz Cat back and a just last week an AP. I want to buy a real downpipe like invidia or cobb and want to pass air care. However, I dont' want to waste money if a High flow cat can't pass air care......and in that case, I'd run a straight d/p instead.

What's the difference in running a Stage 2 Base or Realtime map for AP?

FROM COBB:

"Base Map vs Real Time Map Differences -
The base mapping contains some additional logic for improved performance and is HIGHLY recommended to be used if you plan on operating at a Stage2 level."

If you're worried about Accessport + Cobb Downpipe high flow cat, wait for my results. I'll be going in with this setup first

I would have taken you up on that idea if I didn't run US 92 Chevron... 75c/L instead of well over $1 for 94 here.

yeah well we do maps for 91 (not 92) as well (92 is rare in the USA). Just ask the people reselling them

p.s the snowtire idea I stole it from andys

Contrary to what was implied, running overly rich will hurt the cat WAY MORE than running lean but with high EGTs. Heat doesnt hurt it as much as unburnt fuel does.

The only reason I have USA 92 Chevron is because of Pt Roberts. Maybe I shall e-mail you about the maps - just don't want blown motor.

I think I only run really rich on WOT - if I kept my foot sane, I might be fine. Reminder: need to get the scanmaster and see what the front O2 is seeing.

usa 92 chevron is a 'northwest' type of thing

the front O2 is not a very useful tuning tool, its resoloution is only good for CL type operations not a boosted setup

dont use it for tuning. Even on a stock map the front O2 goes below its range when on throttle and boost.
