Default OFFICIAL 2008-2009 Fantasy Football Thread

It's that time again! D&D for jocks!

So I am 2 months from draft day this year. We are going to draft in the reverser of our finishing order since we are changing to a keeper format, so I get to pick 3/12 as I had a disaster last year. Looks like Joseph Addai for my first pick.

Here's what we came up with for keeper rules. We really wanted the keeper thing to be an addition and not dominate the leauge:

1. Cannot keep anyone drafted in rounds 1-4. This ensures top talent gets spread around.
2. May keep up to 2 players, 1 from any position
3. May keep on roster for up to 4 years total
4. Keeper takes the draft round ONE HIGHER from where they were drafted last year.
5. If undrafted last year (the real keeper prizes) they count as a round 12 pick

So my keepers are Greg Jennings (drafted in the 11th so I get him as a 10th), and Derek Anderson (undrafted last year, so I get him as a 12th)

I've got a feeling the whole NFL Fantasy stuff has hit it's peak. It's too complicated anymore and over hyped. Hate to say it but I have little interest this year.

Perhaps it's peaked. I don't do it for fun, but my main money one that's been 10 years running with the same teams, it's a great source of friend on friend hazing and banter.

Keeping undrafted guys at #12 seems a bit much. Our league currently does #10 and even that is a HUGE advantage. I hope at least your free agent system is blind bidding, not first come first served. Our rules:

1. Can keep 2 players.
2. Can keep on roster for 3 years.
3. Keeper takes the draft round TWO HIGHER from where they were drafted last year.
4. If undrafted last year, they count as a round 10 pick.

We've been talking about moving the undrafted guys from round 10 to round 8.

This is very much a process in evolution for us. We never had keepers before this year. We do have the waivers free agent system. Plus since we aren't keeping ANYONE in the top 4 rounds, I don't think this can be too unbalancing.

Much more interesting to me. I can't seem to find a good core group that stays and pays together.

I have sequestered myself in my draft room (home office) every night from June 1st at 6pm until midnight absorbing information from across the tubes up until the release date of my magazine (typically July 1). The same annually published magazine I have used for the past 9 years was purchased last Wednesday, and is currently on top of my file cabinet in my office. The magazine travels with me everywhere, atop my planner on the passenger seat of my car during my commute, then on top of the planner on my desk at home. It has to this moment and will continue to be unopened until this coming Wednesday night at precisely 630pm EST, where I will read every word of every article in a single sitting. No one is allowed to look in the general direction of this magazine, talk about it, or heaven forbid open it. It does not exist in my life for one week after the moment of purchase, aside from being attached to my hip. During this week, the information is obtained through osmosis into my being. The magazine will be reread in its entirety each night until I have absorbed every stat and nugget of information. While doing laundry, sitting in the pool, or eating dinner, this magazine will be in my hands.

My draft date is unknown at this time. But my lunacy has been confirmed by my family.

2008 Mission #1: Finish in the money for the 10th time in 11 years.
2008 Mission #2: Get my name on the league trophy again.

It was an evolutionary process for us, as well, and we've been doing it for a few years now. It is extremely rare to keep anyone in the top 4 rounds, anyway, especially with a +2 round system.
The problem with the first come first served waiver system in a keeper league is that the guy who is awake first on Monday morning (or whenever it is) gets rewarded. A blind bidding system is far superior in that respect.

It's not first come first serve, we put our free agency picks in at any time and the waiver order determines the picks each Wednesday. It sort of is a blind bidding system.

Rarely at this point. I get bored at cash games. There's a lot more strategy for me in tournaments, and I love the end game when I get there. I think I'm a much more natural tournament player, I play cash game like a robot more.

Anyone doing an OT one? I usually play a free one on ESPN with strangers but this year I did the paying option for the same but with a prize.

I figure it'd be fun to have a second team to play with you guys.
