I wish there was a DIY for this that included pictures of how to do this from start to finish. I just read all 7 pages and all of the information is a jumbled mess in my head since everybody adds another 2c at various parts of the thread.

You can get a kit on ebay for $250 shipped but I don't know what it will be missing and what I will have to order. I'd rather not find that stuff out in the middle of the swap.

Questions in my mind:
1. Will the shift boot from the 02 console fit the 05 console or will I need to buy a new shift boot to use my stock shifter? If so, what kind?
2. What needs to be done to make the ebrake have the proper amount of slack and engage as it should?
3. What would be the proper way to "bend" the ebrake without risking damaging it?
4. Is it necessary to rebuy all the screws and fasteners or can the 02 hardware be re-used?

1. trim is different I think, so I'd assume yes
2. either buy the cable shortening kit mentioned in the thread, do the proper thing and get 05-07 (I think those are the correct years) e-brake cables, or ghetto route is stack washers/nuts/whatever to take away slack
3. you can just stack washers to level out the e-brake (kinda ghetto as well, but will work)
4. most the screws were included with the 07 console that I bought, they were the same as my 04.

One thing that I didn't have in my "kit" that was frustrating was the metal bracket that goes below the center vents. You don't "need" it, but my vent won't sit quite flush and I believe it's because I don't have that piece. I was also missing the clips for the heater control mounting screws...tie raps for now

So if I buy a console from an STi, my WRX shift knob wont work because the boot will be loose, correct? Just want to make sure that it's possible to swap the boot over from my existing console...

So trying to understand this... collecting parts right now... is it or is it not possible to re-use the 02-03 ebrake handle with the right DIY modifications? I am curious what the issue breaks down to... the mounting location, the cable length, or some structural difference with the handle itself?

Not possible. Do it right. Get the right parts.

I have a 2004 V-Limited STi Spec C.

It has an automatic HVAC but old design. Will the HVAC from the 05-07 STi work plug and play on mine?

-edited-

i have checked the manual and the socket looks the same to me so it might just be a case of plug and play thats all.

Yes. 04 STI w/ auto controls can use the 05-07 STI auto setup.

i picked up the center console swap of an 05 impreza dont know it makes a difference but i installed everything but when mounting the 05 wrx radio theres no way for it to sit right if i screw the screws onto the bracket cause the bazel or cover wont fit. i take of the screw and i have to wiggle the radio and bazel or cover to fit so basically the face plate is holding my radio in place and the cover not sitting flush

am i missing something? The OP said to remove the metla brackets from the 04 dash and to reinstall them for the new center console. Well the main bar that hold the center console in place doesnt fit. So what am i doing wrong?

Does anyone have actual pictures of the brackets installed?

I couldn't seem to find this, but if you swap 05-07 door cards to a 02-04, do you have to change the entire harness in the door? I have done a few in the past, but don't really want to have to buy and swap all four, especially when they are in the car. So is it possibly to just swap the switches? Like just get a pigtail and cut off the old one and connect the new one? Thanks.

I just did this to my 02 with 05-07 sti cards

You do not have to change harness...
On my bugeyes switches i could remove the female connector (part attached to the actual switch) and replace the connector in the 05-07 switch with this one.
This leaves you with a " hybrid " switch setup that plugs Into your 02-04 harness
Everything works fine for me so far the only thing I haven't done is extended my mirror switches.

OK, I kind of understand, I could probably figure it out though.
What would I need? Just the door cards and switches? So not the plugs or harnesses or pigtails? I can make my current ones work?

It's easier for me to explain if I had pictures.

You need your 02-04 switches and 05-07 switches.

No pig tails needed. Basically your changing the connector on the switch to match your harness.
