Blouch 16G XTR.....yes.....16G XTR
Facility: TurboXS, tuning by Jermaine
Type of Dyno: Dynapak Baseline # for a stocker at the dyno: stock 02-05 WRX is ~170 HP/~170 TQ Boost: 24 PSI Fuel: 93 octane Mods: 2004 WRX with 150,000 miles on it Blouch 16 XTR prototype Perrin Pulley TurboXS Stealthback no cat version Massiv USA catback Killer B equal length header + v-band uppipe CSS Performance FMIC TGV deletes Walbro fuel pump APS turbo inlet Deatschwerks 650cc injectors Cobb AccessPORT ver 2 TurboXS big MAF intake Grimmspeed BCS 333 HP and 322 TQ About the turbo: It is a prototype Blouch 16G XTR. It has a billet 16G wheel, Blouch housings, and a Garrett ball bearing center cartridge. It is not available yet and is still in testing and final development. If you jam the lines and email Blouch about it, it might speed up the process or honk them off, one of the two! Wheel size is 37 lb/min. Mine came ported, not sure if the full retail will or if it is extra. Read deal Garrett center. BPT 8 is cast and I'm 98.5% sure this means it is an 8cm hotside. Driving impression is that I am now a huge fan of a ball bearing center cartridge. Throttle response is lightning. Just taking the tension out of the gas pedal generates 5 PSI. If a responsive turbo is your forte, this one is for you. While the graph makes it seem a touch on the laggy side, this is far from the truth as on the road my car is now a holy terror. 0-60 is crazy and 60-100 is down right nuts. My previous turbo was a Deadbolt Super16G which was no slouch putting out 290HP on a Dynojet. The new turbo kills it everywhere, especially down low. Jermaine also made me a more conservative 20 PSI map (as yet not used) considering my car is getting up there in the miles at 150,000. When Jermaine was tuning he remarked normal 16Gs make 280HP on his Dynapak. This one is +50HP over that. When I reminded him that this WAS a 16G, he got all bugeyed and made me laugh. After road tuning when we were done, he flipped me the keys and smiled like a Cheshire cat and said I'd like it and he was right! It's really awesome when someone like Jermaine is happy with the results. Fuel according to the logs was low 90s for IDCs with a couple values at 96, so this pretty much maxes out 650s on 93 octane. Props: Mike at Blouch Turbo in Lebanon, PA for letting me test this. Andrew at Andrewtech Automotive in Gaithersburg MD for install help and letting me sleep on his couch. Jermaine at Turbo XS in Gaithersburg, MD for tuning the crap out of my car. Justin at Grimmspeed in Minneapolis, MN for my BCS. Trey at Cobb Tuning in Austin, TX for AccessPORT ver. 2. Mike at Deatschwerks in Oklahoma City, OK for the injectors. Chris at Killer B in Waynesboro, VA for my new headers and uppipe. |

It's a "16G" just like the 20G XTR is a "20G". Meaning, only really in the name. It's a Garrett GT28 center cartridge with Blouch wheels ("16G" compressor) and housings. They can call it what they want (and if it spools like a "16G" then it's a fitting name). I'm not knocking it (or Blouch's naming), it's just not really a traditional "16G", so it's not too surprising it makes such good power.
The power does look good though. I seems it could be an excellent turbo for a 2.0L. The only concerning thing from the plots you posted is the spool. Peak torque at 4,700RPM's seems quite slow for a turbo this size. Do you have a boost plot? Or do you know what RPM it hits 20psi at on the street? |

Nice job, BomberMan!
How do you think that turbo would do on a 1.6L spinning to 7500rpm? |

Looks like a great street turbo, my favorite thing about a BB CHRA is the transient response.

Just did a pull on the street. My eyes tell me that 20 PSI is right around 4200.

Thanks for posting the log. Here's a boost plot:
It looks about how I'd expect from seeing the dyno plot. 20psi around 4300rpm. I really like Blouch (and have a Blouch turbo), but that seems a bit off to me. I don't know much about 2.0L motors, but I would have assumed they'd spool a smaller turbo like this very quickly. Is that incorrect? My 20G XTR (on a 2.5L) hits 20psi by about 3600rpm's. But your log sure does hold boost well until redline! EDIT: Maybe I'm way off base here, and this turbo is just large enough that it takes a little longer to spool on a 2.0L... I'd be curious to see how it compares to a VF on a 2.5L. Quote:

doo waaannntttt with my small 16g i'm hitting 20psi by about 3700rpm but even running 22-23psi i doubt i'd break 300 whp on a dyno (did it on a virtual dyno but we all know how accurate those are) big thing is the fall off at high rpm, although not near as bad as the td-04 its obvious... you still have pretty much 300whp by redline!!! seems like an awesome turbo and if it is indeed an 8cm thats really good spool on a 2.0L i was considering a 16gxt but i'll wait and see where this goes -Alex |

I dont ever post in PPB but.....I know going rotated is a big step from stock location, but my bros .63 3076 spools as fast/faster than this, and makes more power....is the reason to get a turbo like that mainly because of the task/money involved in going rotated? I'm not hating AT ALL, just curious.

would be a fun quick response turbo for the STi... hmmmm
The Blouch 16G XT, which has different housings, says their 16G is a 41 lb/min... not a 37? So is this turbo smaller? "The Blouch TD05H-16G-XT features the new aero of the Blouch 41 lb/min fully machined billet XT compressor in a TD05 compressor housing combined with the quick response of the Mitsubishi TD05H turbine in a 7cm2 nozzle area turbine housing." I was told 37 lb/min but that was a long time ago and I might be wrong.

Yeah. It sure seems similar. The Dom 0.5XTR is rated at 360HP, which usually means 36lb/min in Blouch's turbos. I've never seen how a 0.5XTR spools though. Maybe this is a replacement? I like Blouch but it honestly seems like their lineup is getting too crowded. You could argue that having more choices is never a bad thing but there really is a lot of overlap.
