Default Midpipe question to fit cobb dp and axle back

I have a cobb catted downpipe on my 04 wrx. I recently picked up a cobb axleback, "muffler", for it off craigslist for really cheap! for some reason the kid did not have the midpipe to sell with it? now I have to get a cobb midpipe for $275 or find a cheaper midpipe that will bolt to the cobb dp and axleback?
what will work if anything? thanks!

Buy a ebay M2 style catback exhaust for around $200 and sell the axleback from it.

The cobb midpipe is 3 inch and tapers down to factory 2.5 at the dp. And your current cobb catted dp tapers as well to fit that midpipe (or fit stock). Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive.

So you would be good with any 3 inch midpipe as long as you use the 3 to 2.5 adapter with the correct gaskets or if not, I know the SPT midpipe should fit (tapers from 3 to 2.5 as well). Grimmspeed makes those adaptors if you wanted to go that route.

Hope this helped, double check me on that but I'm pretty sure that is how it is.

Not ever mid pipe will fit(from experience turbo xs doesnt mate up to non turbo xs dp) but until you find one that does, get an adapter to fit the DP with the stock midpipe

The cobb dp does not need the adapter because it already fits the stock midpipe since it tapers down to factory size.

My guess is that he already has this setup currently (cobb dp mated to stock) and is looking to complete his tbe with a midpipe and the axle back he purchased.

are you sure the M2 midpipe is the same length as the cobb? It might be a totally different length that only works with that catback system?

Look at a stromung 3" intermediate pipe, should bolt right up to both ends you have. You can probably use a whisper intermediate, those come with the factory like donut gasket at the down pipe end or for a straight 3" flange. They will be cheaper than a Cobb intermediate and as good quality wise.

I just found it, problem is it costs $250, I can get cobb for $275 and have a complete cobb turbo back system without worrying about any fitment issues! I am looking for something cheaper! good suggestion though!

eh don't take risks with ebay fitment! learned the hard way of course . Just save for a bit if anything, your setup is fine for now, no rush. Just hold it off til you get the perfect midpipe that you KNOW will fit (spt or the cobb)

Even if you go with a slightly cheaper 3' all the way to the dp, you'll still end up spending 40 for the grimmspeed adapter plus at least another 30 on the two gaskets along with questioning/taking the risk if the piece will even fit.

Going to end up around the same price. Might as well wait til you have that 275$, find a used, or get an SPT which you know would fit.
