hailblankets.com
I am trying to find something for while i'm at work at home I have garage. Has anyone on the forum bought from this company and if so can I get a description of the padding thickness and overall review? I have found some in austraila but shipping is crazy. I found a guy in ILL that will add padding but a gain 400 dollars min. I have seen on other forums hailblankets is mentioned but no descriptions or feedback.

I used to just watch the weather and if hail was expected I would drive to a covered lot at the gas station, the bank atm, a bridge and wait it out. Might be cheaper to just buy a cover and glue sections of 1/2"-1" foam inside the cover, or even just strips unless you have baseball hail. Goodluck

In a pinch, take the comforter off your bed and throw it over your car. For anything less than golf-ball-sized hail it'll work like a charm--its a whole lot cheaper and easier to replace a comforter than it is to fix hail damage.

On their site the blanket is $360ish. Doesn't seem like a bad price to pay for saving your paint. But here in Virginia the chances of it coming a hail storm are slim. We have only had a handful that I can remember this year. If you are in a area where it storms a lot then I'd buy it.

My problem is I can't get an email response from them. No phone number and no specs on the cover. Many offer ding resistant covers and I have seen samples but they are 1mm tops thick. This won't stop anything. If I could find someone who owns one that would help alot. Like I said Austraila has them real nice ones but to get one here is very difficult. I wish I had the funds I would import them and sell them or open up shop. I can't imagine there is not a market for hail blankets here in the USA.

I wouldn't reply to someone trying to copy my design either.

Take an old comforter and put it between 2 tarps. Sew it up and boom you have protection for not even $100

Even though this is an old thread that was bumped for spam reasons, this topic really interests me. Here in Colorado we get random hail storms frequently in the spring/summer months. My '07 WRX had to be repaired twice in 2 years from major hail damage ($500 deductible x 2).
I'm trying to avoid this with the STI. It's parked in the garage at home and while at work but it never fails that it happens to hail when the car is away from either of these two places. Because of this I was looking into hail blankets or other solutions to protect the car on the go. I'm hesitant to go with a car cover because it will inevitably scratch up the paint. At this point I'm thinking my best bet is to buy 2 thick king sized comforters to keep in the trunk for when I need them. Is there another solution any of you stick with in areas that hail? |
