Default What apartment do you live in? North Dallas

And because this is useless without pics

I visited North Dallas this week and loved it.

I looked at various apartment complexes ranging from some with broken down cars and speed bumps for days, to Aura at castle hills in Lewisville.

I live in a dumpy apartment in Mass at the moment, 400 sqft, but very importantly, it is a safe area, I have no fear in parking a couple of flashy-ish modified cars.

I'm really looking for the smallest one bedroom in the safest area that takes a 50 pound dog.

We liked how nice Aura was, but isn't necessary, and we liked Verandas at Timberglen.

Garage preferred, but mainly trying to see what the best/safest area to be, ranging from Lewisville, to The Colonly, and over to Plano.

Price probably depends on finishes and whatnot, we're okay up to $1,000 or so, less preferred.

Looking on Yelp and others, it appears that perhaps only angry tenants write reviews, or the good ones are fake/employees.

Where do you guys/gals live in North Dallas, apartment-wise?

Best bet is to rent a duplex or house. Yard for dogs. The colony/little elm. Where's work?

Seems to be tougher to find!

We looked at Austin ranch in the colony, as far as apartments, I was satisfied but not thrilled.

Work is potentially in Plano, moving regardless.

There's tons of apartments in the area. Plano has a pretty good park system. Getting an apt close to that system would be nice.

That's why it's so overwhelming and I'm seeking help from you wonderful locals!

There was one in Plano that seemed to fit the needs but we ran out of time and couldn't make it.

I live in the Landmark at Collin Creek. Its a decent complex for what you pay for it. Only downsides are no covered parking. We got 2 WRX's in the complex and counting?!

I'm living in the Austin Ranch apts, I love them, I live above the pub & the pools they have are locally known for the party's. Walking distance (20ft) to a market, three bars, & a coffee shop. A lot of car tuners live here which I like. This will be the last apt living I do before a house.

The ones diagonally across from mcswiggan's?

I couldn't decide how the neighborhood of Austin ranch really was, some was parking lot type, some was more parallel on street parking.

Rent a house. Apts are getting way too expensive unless you live far away from uptown/Addison. All depends where you work. Im renting a 4 bedroom house for $1100 in garland.

I moved here a couple of months ago from NY and love Dallas so far. Right now I live in an apt complex in North Irving (Valley Ranch). Big 2 bed/2 bath place with a one car garage and a spot outside of it, pool, etc. There's literally a ton of similar complexes like it in this town. Its a nice place and all, just too far from any nightlife for our taste so my buddy and I will be getting a diff place soon. Depending on what youre looking for this could be a good are for you.

The original goal was to get a house but the ones that I reply to are scams saying "send me a deposit, I'm off helping Jesus."

Oaks of Valley Ranch? We're boring people so the nightlife isn't needed at all.

Well in that case id reccomend looking around online to find what youre looking for and calling to see whats available. Valley Ranch is the neighborhood name and theres a ton of complexes so that could be one.

I just moved here (Richardson/plano) from California. Moved into the prairie creek apts, close to 75 and the George bush tollway. Have a 90 lb lab, very dog friendly. Has a small dog park where I can throw the disk for the dog. Also garages are attached and are a good size. very quite place, tons of parking, trails near by to walk the dog. Very happy with the place and have no complaints so far and been here 7 months now. shopping, food, grocery store are all very close by and convenient.

I second that. There are tons that have attached garages. With how much we love our cars, it's one of the most important things when I look for an apt.

Note: This is my personal opinion only. I've actually been to some of the apts you listed. Also I prefer gated communities.
I've been living in apartments for 8 years, now at my 6th apartment.

Another thing to note is that most of the time apartment ratings don't mean much. Sure a lot of the incidents people write online about their apts are real, but I can also tell you they don't happen to everyone. I've lived happily in multiple apts with not so great reviews online and moved out without any problems.

here is the ones I would check out if I were you. (based on area and apt quality)

Reserve at Pebble Creek http://www.reserveatpebblecreek.com/
Lakeshore at Preston http://gables.com/lakeshoreatpreston
Riachi at ONE21 Apartment http://www.bannerapartments.com/plano/riachi-at-one21

Another thing is the apts on your list are all pretty spread out. You sure there isn't an area you like better?

Looks like a nice place but starts a little high for my taste.

I'll get at least covered for hail, just not 100% sure I'll be employed once I get there, so a garage may be out at $100/month.

Most of the places I saw with gates had the gates open?

I assumed that was true, and that the %5 that had problems posted 100% of the negative reviews, but the more positive I figured the better for me.

We only had a couple days to check everything from Lewisville to Dallas and up to Plano out, and most of it looked nicer than what we are used to.

We are used to driving a half hour to get anywhere, as well, so the focus is more on getting somewhere nice before somewhere really convenient.

The gates thing is either hit or miss. But generally I look for gates because of the surrounding fences, so even if the gates are open sometimes (If they are open all the time, it's a good indication that's it's not a good community), you don't get random people wandering into the apt from all directions. Plus most nicer apartments have gates.
