Good you got it fixed, its really not good for the turbo. It should have been obvious this was the BOV not opening, you could have just adjusted it correctly or like you did probably for the better put the stock one back on.

Compressor surge is completely safe and normal, and not bad for the turbo in any way shape or form. i read an article a few years back written by the engineer that pretty much designed the turbo, and compressor surge is normal with any turbo setup, its just ussually very faint. he also said that compressor surge is by no means harmful, and i have yet to ever read a "i had compressor surge and my turbo blew" thread.

as for the BOV, it needs to be correctly adjusted to do away with with the surge, running the Stock BPV is fine, but if you want your blowoff back, you just need to adjust it so it acctually blows off correctly.

I tryed adjusting the BOV many times with different springs, even if I had it set really soft it would still surge or open at idle. I might have just bought a ****ty blow off valve plus I think it hAs something to do with running a front mount all that extra space and the way the air is running through.

If you still want the BOV sound, you can just eliminate the return hose from the bpv and plug the inlet hole. I don't see anything wrong with doing that, no flutter and still have the sound

Let me guess. A God speed turbo???? A little surge won't hurt anything. Besides, the sound everyone refers to as surge isn't really surge.....

Isn't it compressor stall? As you let throttle off all the air rushes straight back to the turbo

No, compressor stall refers to Turbine Engines. compressor surge is the politically correct term. Basically, the mechanics are, when the throttle plate closes, the turbo is still spinning and generating pressure, being that the air has nowhere to escape, it flows back onto the compressor wheel. this causes the compressor wheel to essentially lose grip on the air its trying to throw in, and some of the air escapes past the compressor. In that instant, the pressure in the intercooler piping drops momentarily, and the compressor gets a hold of the air, throws it back in, and the process repeats. which is why its a repeated "chuffing" sound. Hopefully this dispells some myths. the sound of compressor surge is simply, the sound of the air on the fins. in a strange process of escaping the pressurized area. The turbo, Does not spin backwards, nor does it stop momentarily. hope this helped!

And as for the godspeed turbo, you spent 300$ on a turbo, and thought it would last?
Cost, Reliability, performance. <pick two. you cannot have all three.

Did you know, at one point, turboed vehicles didnt use any sort of blow off, or bypass valve? and compressor surge was how it came from the factory?
