It would probably be used to see around the car. That side would be the passenger side in Japan. It would come in handy with a long car like that.

yup, if you've never seen them before, look back at older pics of a lot of cars in japan. very popular to have both your mirrors up on the fender in the 60's n 70's designs.

Fixed for you.

I wouldn't say disgusting though, just boring. However, boring has helped to sell a LOT of vehicles as there are a lot of people that would prefer to blend in rather than stand out.

Precisely! Sad as it may seem, the vast majority of people out there have no interest in making a statement. They are sheep. How else can you possibly explain the previous generation Taurus. Have you ever driven one of those? It's the most bland, generic, lame car ever invented. I also think the entire lineup of Toyota is the same way. The problem is, actions speek louder than words and Toyota is a worldwide automotive juggernaut breaking sales records every quarter. Sad, so sad.

I didn't know they changed the look of the Forester. Wow, it looks awful in comparison to the older style. Byebye fozzy goodness.

no im not sure thats why i said i think. i used to work at an automotive supplier designing side view mirrors for chrysler/gm/ford. we did 2 of those fender mount mirrors for japan exports, one for the wrangler and one for the neon. im not so sure its a law, but i know there are strict guidlines and specs regarding visibility and mirrors over in japan...much more strict than that of the US. i think it may depend on the vehicle as to whether a fender mount mirror is needed/required, but i know for a fact that japan was the only market we ever had to do that for. you dont see them on alot of newer vehicles in japan because its cheaper to throw a camera on the car then it is to manufacture a mirror these days.

Well, if everyone out there was 'making a statement' then we would be the sheep wouldn't we?
