Dual AVCS conversion even possible?
Is this a mod that can even be done? I know our engines are very modular but still. Had a guy here tell me that was his next mod. 09 STI AVCS system to 06 STI.

Sure- just swap the heads and install the electronics to control the AVCS.

It is easy compared to a STI swap into a 2000 2.5RS. It's cake compared to the EG33 powered Datsun 240Z that someone here is working on. |

I wouldn't call it easy at all. 09 sti is a can bus ecu. To use that wiring harness will have you pulling your hair out.

Has anyone completed a swap with one of these.

I asked this very same question a while back and got a bunch of silly responses. Hopefully you can get someone to answer the question...

Well I guess this answered my question about trying to convert an 05 sti to a dual AVCS system. Sounds like more trouble then it's worth.

The factory GD STI ECU can't/won't run the second bank of AVCS and the effort to swap an GR STI ECU is prohibitively difficult (if even possible at all). A standalone designed for the GD but with extra outputs for variable cam systems is the only realistic way to make it happen.

The GR ECU uses CAN BUS. If it doesn't see the other items on the BUS it will throw DTC's. I am unsure if just deleting these codes will keep the ECU happy. If you swapped the whole electrical system (harness and all modules) it should work fine.

Not worth it. Hell I want to delete avcs. Simpler is better.

Unless you swap in every module and basically make the car a complete GR STI with a different shell. Not worth it. |
