Added some goodies to my car again
This time Santa brought the following:
1. Vishnu uppipe. Bought it from a fellow NASIOCer for $120 2. TurboXS Stealthback. Got from Nino's. This is a 4" bellmouth stainless steel behemoth downpipe, and the rest is 3" straight pipe until it gets to the end, where it is 2.5" so you can mate it to stock/aftermarket axle back muffler. 3. Prodrive axle back muffler. Got it from Kastle's Korner. Mmmmm Prodrive, what else is there to say? I was planning on doing the exhaust installation myself. It is fairly simple, so I thought it may take me 2 hours if I work at my usual slothy pace. Then I saw the uppipe for sale. I mean, for $120.....come on....Vishnu uppipe? With the uppipe added to the equation, I had to do some additional research. I ultimately decided that I best ask for some help. I ended up cruising up to Richmond to seek the assistance of PURE EPI. Chris, a couple of buddies, and myself spent about 5 hours total on the install. I did very little work on the uppipe, but did observe. My observations: If you intend on installing an uppipe by yourself without help or experience, it would be less painful to place a white hot stainless steel contact lens in your eye. The mechanics involved are quite involved, and it is very easy to loose yourself in the process. That was really the only challenge. I think most pseudo mechanically inclined people can do the exhaust and downpipe. Impressions: According to the manufacturers of said components, they should all equal to about ~45 HP. Needless to say, this amount does register on my butt dyno. Boost occurs earlier on the tach and the needle swings much quicker when boost occurs. Prodrive is supposed to be one of the quietest exhausts available. At idle and highway speeds, yes. If it's over 3500-4k RPM, that thing is just loud. Maybe I have old ears, but I will be careful around Johnny Policeman just to be safe. With these components you also get the tea kettle turbocharger whistle noise. This can be a turn off to some, but it is caused by the downpipe. I guess the TurboXS unit is famous for this. TurboXS supplies extra bolts for the exhaust. They evidently purchase these at Kmart. I like spending $600 for an exhaust, when they can't spend the extra 14 cents on some Grade 8 bolts. That is about it, other than my Cobb Tuning AccessECU that I hope to get in less than a month and some LED washer nozzles, I think that will be the end for me. Much thanks/props to Chris for the install. I don't know if he is officially "for hire" or not, but it may very well be worth your time to PM him if you have any installs to do, to see if he can help/do it for you. VERY meticulous and scientific when it comes to using the proper order and torque for the uppipe. Gets cranky when his Gatorade supply runs low though. |

I have the same axle back. The difference is your turboxs is catless and you have not midpipe resonator. That is why your exhaust is loud! I still have the stock downpipe and midpipe and the prodrive exhaust is just a nice mellow burble at low rpm and a gentle growl at high rpm.
Can't wait for my Perrin high-flow cat down pipe and the midpipe eliminator. he he he |

i dont' know maybe i'm a youngin.. but when i think loud i think of an old charger with straight pipes.... Now i think your exhaust sounds sweet but even at interstate it wasn't obtrusive. Guess thats why they say 'different strokes for different folks'

But on a more serious note...I am so jocking your exhaust setup. It sounded really good! Can't say enough good things about it. -Dee |
