Subaru Stars STI_KLR's Built 2.5L Hybrid

How she sits right now:

Ok, here's a quick run down to catch people up:

February 7th: Cracked a ringland in the EJ20 in cyl #4
Feb-May: Slowly build up the 2.5L Hybrid (myself) with a brand new EJ257
End of May: Motor cranks up first try; 1,xxx mile break-in begins
June: Blow 2nd gear in the 5-speed
July: Replace 5-speed with JDM 6-speed
September: Break the bell-housing on the 6-speed
November: 2 cracked pistons lead to rapid oil consumption to spin rod bearings in cyl #2

# of times WRX has been towed since February: 8 and counting.

PRESENT DAY:

The WRX is currently at IAG Performance in Westminster, MD where all of the work is being done. The rod and crank were completely toast, so here is the work that has already been done. The BOLD parts are brand new, the rest are parts I already had.

Yes sir I do. He unfortunately is the only common denominator in both of these motor failures. Both gone due to detonation? HMMMMMM...

what was the A/F ratio set at?

Thats a shame man, I was about to buy a cable and let them tune me soon also since I thought the first motor was a freak accident. BUT after seeing both of your motors go I'm just going to save up and probably go to DPS.

O and is your 16g done?, if not is it up for sale......I had to ask

Are you going to have the combustion chambers in the head modified to improve power and reliability?

People try arguing with us all the time about how much better it is to fix the combustion chamber on hybrid builds. Well we proved it. 40whp more on pump gas than the previous tune on meth/water injection.

Please, do the work. Not doing it is what causes so many hybrids to fail. Even an awesome tune can't overcome the poor mechanics of the 2L chamber on a 2.5L bore.

Want to elaborate a little bit on how you "fix" the combustion chamber?

Maybe I need to get on the horn with IAG before they assemble the heads. I had asked when I was there yesterday if it was necessary to P&P and "fix" the chamber but we didn't talk too much about it.. so, I guess the ball is in their court.

"not getting your 2.0 heads matched to the bigger bore. leaves i believe a tiny lip hangin over into the combustion chamber. which then creates uneven detonation aka dead spot on your piston. also when combusting instead of it being dead center of the piston it will vary anywhere on the face of your piston"

so i was told by someone.
