It's supposed to be nice again by the end of the week. I'm kinda glad I didn't get mine out yet, in retrospect.

Ten years ago, on April 20, 2003, one of the most talented Japanese motorcycle racers ever passed away after fighting for his life following a high-speed accident at Suzuka during the MotoGP championship series. Daijiro Kato was 26 years old, humble, polite and adored, particularly in Japan after dominating the 2001 250cc GP championship series . . . taking a record 11 wins in the process.

Kato showed great promise after moving up to the Premier class and wrestling the new 990cc four-stroke v-5 monster Honda, eventually alongside teammate Sete Gibernau. Kato's passing is just one reminder of the great danger lurking beneath the beauty of this sport, and the fragile nature of life. Here are a couple of videos that we selected from YouTube that you might take the time to watch.

just a few thoughts as we enter riding season***8230;.not sorrow, or forewarning necessarily but we loose several riders each season in Alaska, usually early in the season. I would ask that all riders take a second to watch this and realize just how good this guy was***8230;a world champion, on his home track***8230;.and he lost his life doing what he loved.

Of course, it was under race conditions***8230;.but never the less, he passed away from his injuries.

Also to the car crowd***8230;keep an eye out for the bikes. You may hate them, but I am certain you don't want to be involved in an accident where a life is lost. It changes you. Just use some caution and watch your mirrors a bit more closely. The life you save may be your own or a friend who rides.

Have a great summer Y'ALL.

Riding Saturday once it warms up. Probably go by the swap meet at Alaska leather and ride to ARP to do some scouting for the autocross. If anyone is interested in joining, pm me.

Was out on my mistress today, stretching her legs, after a long winter's nap. Feels so great to be back in the elements. VERY dirty and dusty out. Tons of gravel but it was great to see municipal trucks out and about watering and sweeping up. Bike is running flawlessly.

I swung by AK leather swap meet. Picked up several items too, including a second set of Sidis. Best boot made, Sonny!

Saw a couple great beginner bikes there if anyone here is interested.

Saw Josh Hedin's new ride at Anchorage Yamaha too. There is about to be a new sheriff in town!

Guys...be careful! We had a young man we just hired last Monday wreck the bike he just bought this past Friday apparently going down on sandy pavement. Now, he's out with a bad knee injury and on leave without pay. The roads are still crappy for bikes.

Appreciate the heads up BJ but the roads are always crappy in Alaska.

I was out and about over the weekend. The first month is always a mess.

Like I said before, roads are pretty rough till at least May. Anyone out there right now should be extremely careful and alert.

Sorry to hear he laid the bike down though, could always be worst. Wishing a speedy recovery.

So***8230;bike blessing is saturday. Who's in?

http://www.meetup.com/Alaska-Motorcy...nts/105086872/

My group usually does breakfast and then we ride into the blessing together. If conditions are nice, we do an afternoon ride as well, usually out of town. Hopefully it will warm up considerably by then.

I think it is called a newb boutique Ducati rider who had no business being on a bike.
Just my opinion.

When you think bikes are all about horsepower, watch this and learn.

First person rider is on a 250cc twin cylinder against inline 4 cylinder 1000 cc bikes at Laguna Seca. Watch closely, especially the rear view camera and how much acceleration those big bikes have in comparison.
