Default Can anyone help me configure TV Out for my computer?

I'm using a GeForce 3 with VIVO and all the latest nVidia drivers. I'm using an RCA cable through one of those VIVO dongles (RCA in/out, SVideo in/out). I've gotten it to the point where a signal is going to the TV, but it's completely scrambled.

Anyone have a clue?

Check for an NTSC/PAL option. It should be set to NTSC.

Oh man what a pain...there is usually some extra settings, refresh rate, etc etc that have to match your TV's capabilities.

Ok, it's like there's two mirror images smushed vertically on the screen... yet they're fuzzy and black and white. Any hints?

Depending on the Gefroce card there should be a jump (physical) on the card that needs to be switched to change it from PAL to NTSC. This could well be the problem, as stated above. Can you do 640x480 resolution, colour depth might need to be limited to 256 or so and make sure you installed the software for the video card. Also a long shot but if you had a different card in before this one, you need to remove the drivers for the old card completely before putting the new card in the machine.

If you didn't do this, then remove the drivers now, then turn off power, remove the card and (possibly switch on without card, then power down,) put it back in and then put the drivers for the video card back in. Otherwise you might still be running on the older drivers that might not support TV out.

Also make sure the tv out port is the TV out port and not the TV in port. It also might be set to TV in, in the bios or elsewhere.

On my computer, I have to turn on "display mirroring", otherwise the tv just shows a blank screen. But my setup of a single s-video cable seems much simpler than yours.

You're just trying to display your computer's screen on your tv or am i missing something?

Not completely sure. Can you elaborate?

Also, I just formatted this computer and booted it up. So there's been nothing else installed on here.

Yep, that's all I'm trying to do. And I don't have an option of "display mirroring"

Ok, well since I've made ZERO progress over the past two days, I thought maybe some pictures would help out. Note that these images aren't static, they're flickering up and down and the camera only catches a single frame of this.

This is the motherboard booting up:

This is windows loading:

And this is what it looks like when windows is loaded:

Does this help?

They didn't give you the time of day over at HTPCNews, eh Cobreth?

If I had a GeForce card I'd tell you what to do, but unfortunately I'm using ATi almost exclusively here.

Try having the TV as the only monitor available, with resolution set at 640x480.

Otherwise I wonder if that might be Macrovision protection kicking in. Tried TV-Tool?

Well I guess if you saw my thread, you didn't give me the time of day either!

I just changed it to 640x480 and that sorta helped. I get "more" of a picture, but it's still scrambled.

Let me see what TV tool can do...

have you tried just the composite (RCA) connection and not the S-Video?
I've had odd things happen when the component channels get switched around because of a bad connector/cable.

Yep, definitely a composite connection because what's being output is definitely analog. Digital either works completely or not at all.

Does the tv work without the computer hooked up?

Is there a tuner flicker adjustment on the TV tracking or something?

Yep. It works fine with a PS2 and I can watch TV on it.

No adjustments.

Macrovision, cant see y it would do that. Maybe a disk or something but not jsut desktop.

Is it black and white?

PAL vs NTSC or possibly progressive scan or something. Just screw with the options till you get it, should be pretty straight forward.

It has that little thing with the tv monitor out and the little green red toggle in the top left corner and the circle yer? Gotta set TV as primary display....... good luck. Got newest drivers?

oh and have you tried differetn cables?

It might do that --but not necessarily-- because it's a combo TV-DVD player. There might be some protection circuitry going on as there would be with, say, a combo TV-VCR setup.

The on-screen symptoms certainly look to be indicative of Macrovision rearing its ugly head.

It's worth ruling out as a troubleshooting step, anyhow.

did you get the nvidia driver from the nvidia website? There is a program that installs on your computer when you download the drivers. usually accessible from the icons in the lower right corner of the XP bar (running processes). In there you can find the options you need.

Are you using the Display>propertries to get it too work?

When I get home I'll look on myy computer, been a while since I messed with that.
