Hmm. I'll have to give it a whirl. I knew the Rosstech software wouldn't work, just wondering if anyone has used the Rosstech supplied cable (which as I said is the part you buy from Rosstech that activates their software). Obviously there is a little something special to that cable, but hopefully the hardware part is simple enough to let it work with other software.

I received my alpha-bid vag-com cable today and I was able to connect, log data, and flash on the first try using the information in this thread.
Edit: I made a 12v jumper for the flash block by hacking up an old sony cd walkman power supply for the cigarette lighter. It's still has the fuse intact. No need to run a wire from the battery. Last edited by jarencibia; 07-06-2010 at 08:17 PM. |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=370240527399 Guess i was one day late for Alpha-Bid plus i had put a bid on the item too, but had to wait 12 hours for it to end. that's when he ran out of stock I'll have to get a usb hub then probably since it can be powered (i have an ac/dc converter). my carputer is in my trunk, so it's a few feet short if i run the usb cable back to it |

I'm glad I made this thread. I just had to restore my laptop and lost all my software, drivers, maps, etc . I'm installing a new turbo this weekend, great time for the computer to crash...

I wrote a batch file that copies all my maps and logs to a USB drive with the click of an icon. It's especially nice because it only copies the new files and doesn't overwrite everything so the backup is fast.
1) Open notepad 2) Paste this in: Code:
@echo off xcopy c:\progra~1\romraider\images\*.* /e /v /h /r /d /y d:\images pause 4) Add additional backup locations if you want (I save my logs in a subfolder within the images directory, so they get backed up as part of the images directory) 4) Save the file as BackupImage.bat 5) Drop a shortcut to the batch file on your desktop and change the icon to whatever you want (I used a RomRaider icon and have it on my desktop next to the Editor and Logger icons) My last Backup is 2,454 Files, 11 Folders, and 590MB of data in the Images folder |

Hey all. I mentioned above that I bought from this guy since alpa-bid is out of stock.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=370240527399 it was only $11.49, and it works with my 2007 Impreza AND, it even works with my USB 6' extension cable just had it hooked up to my carputer and was looking at data with romraider. only thing i don't like is the position of the ECU plug i was hoping to keep it plugged in all the time, but it sticks down into my footwell. it's only a matter of time before my boot kicks it getting in/out |

Are you talking about the OBDII plug? You know, you can relocate it...

What he said ^^
You can get an extension cable for your obd2 port, unmount the obd2 connector from the dash, and reroute to somewhere safer like the passenger footwell. |

oh cool. thanks. i was going to try to check that out on sunday to see if i could detach it. passenger footwell would be perfect so i can run the usb cable to the carputer since it's also on the passenger side in my trunk
somebody mentioned above that the usb extension wouldn't work, however mine does. i'm using either a 6' or the 10'. i'll have to check which one but i got it from frys for a few bucks http://www.frys.com/product/5638031?...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG http://www.frys.com/product/5638101?...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG |

Is there an advantage to the higher baud rate? Can you log more parameters or get better log resolution? Or is this more of a stability thing?

I'll have to try this (if I ever get my netbook back from Acer). I'm borrowing a work laptop for tuning until I get my netbook back, but I don't want to dork with the port settings because it uses an FTDI chipset USB RF receiver for some training software and I don't want to mess that up.

As it has already been mentioned vagcom does NOT work witch CAN bus ECUs. That means it doesn't work for 2006+ Subaru ECUs.
As for flashing 02-07 WRX. Connect the green test connector, connect the flash jumper (get it from tactrix or make it yourself). Then you must connect pins 16 and 11 in the OBDII port. That will get 12V to ECU for flashing. If you have a good battery you'll get a high voltage warning. Just turn the rear window defroster on, it will drop to required levels. |

So i'm considering just getting this since the open port 1.3 is still over $100. How do i connect pins 16 and 11 with the plug inserted into the OBDII? oh almost forgot, since i've had everything working perfectly as designed with the tactrix cable as far as the drivers and logging etc, will I need any new drivers? I know the tactrix cable is recognized by vista and it just installs its own drivers automatically. thanks |
