Question Cobb Accessport power on all time.

Hello, I just received my Cobb Accessport yesterday and i'm very satisfied with the STAGE 2 MAP. The car feels completely different and Also the Monitor Feature is really useful. But i have question about the power, When the port connected to the OBD port, the Access-Port power will stay on even though the car's ignition is off. The Accessport monitor will stay on all the time. I was wondering does everyone keep the Access-Port connected to the OBD port all time? or u guys disconnect the cable when the car is parked. Because I'm too lazy to connect and disconnect the cable all the time. So my question is, is it ok to keep the Access-port connected to the OBD port all the time and not powering it off?

Please help. Thanks

I've seen people say that it's possible for the screen to burn in to some effect so letting it sit on all day all the time isn't the best for it.

You shouldn't leave it connected all the time. The people that like their APs being somewhat permanent fixtures in their car usually splice the power cable and put in a relay like I did. I have mine turn on and off with my car.

Here is a short write up I did. I wired a switch to turn the OBDII on/off.

In general, we do recommend unpowering the AccessPORT when it's not in use. Being left on the same screen/image for long periods of time can cause screen burn-in issues on these types of devices. We plan to add on/off functionality to future hardware Until then, the options mentioned by the other posters are all good recommendations for the technically savvy.

Best regards-
Lance

How about only disconnecting the ap from the usb cable that gets to it, like leave the obd connected just disconnect the ap from the usb at the other end? Anything can be affected in the future by doing this?

you got your AP yesterday. Naturally, its monitoring features will soon bore you, and your stage 2 will remain. Then you can unplug it and throw it in the glove box. Or in your room where its safe like mine. For the next few days i would unplug it from the ap and leave it in plugged under the dash if anything.

No, unfortunately, we did not end up adding this functionality.

Why not just a screen off after ignition off for x minutes?

There are a lot of different ways this functionality can potentially be implemented, but, unfortunately, there are various issues that need to be accounted for at the hardware level that make it something that is not a simple addition. That is why it has not happened as of yet. However, we know that this is a desired feature and we are considering different solutions for this, just not something that will be likely available in the immediate future. Thank you for your patience.

Is there are harm in leaving the OBDII plugged in but only plugging in the AP end when I am actively using it?

Ok. So I'm a total noob at this. Bought a 2013 about a month ago. Plan to purchase AP in the not too distant future. If I am understanding this properly, it is possible to remove the AP from the OBD2 once desired map has been flashed to ECU. This means the AP does not take up permanent residence in the vehicle. Is this correct?
Thanks

You are correct. Keep in the glove box for occasional data logs and in case something feels off or a check engine pops up. Once the map is flashed its on your ecu.

No, not a problem in doing that.

As Ride1226 mentioned, you do not have to have the AP connected to the car at all times. You only need to connect it when you first install, when you want to change your map or you wish to use other functions such as data logging or trouble code reading. Once you install the Accessport, the map that you installed is permanently flashed to the engine control unit (ECU) until you uninstall the Accessport or reflash a different map via the Accessport. The reflashed tune would remain on the ECU even if you were to remove the ECU from the car.

Ok thanks. I thought this was the case, but I wanted to be sure. I plan on purchasing an AP in the not-to-distant future.
Thanks!

The flash once it's done, I thought you could just unplug the accessport. Once it's flashed, it stays tuned until you convert it back to stock, or flash it to the next stage.... Is that correct?
If you want to monitor your vehicle, then you can leave it plugged in while driving.

Will the launch control feature still work after unplugging? Idle position and etc.?

Really a switch costs about .95¢. About 20 minutes worth of work on some cad software, and you can turn it on and off. Every single tuner like edge autosports and bully dogs on trucks all turn on and off with ignition. Why is this so difficult Cobb? Is it a ploy to sell more cables when you finally wear them out? You redesigned the connector on the programmer, when you did the respin of the board you should've added it then.
