No boxer engine and AWD = no interest in purchasing a Subaru.

Recent reports...
...have stated that the Subaru hybrid would be AWD. What's mentioned here is that "earlier" reports indicated they may have to drop AWD.
I think (pray!) AWD will be part of the plan. The only thing new here is that it may be an Impreza. Bob Last edited by rsholland; 03-07-2010 at 10:26 AM. |

the hybrid idea in a small car came from someone in the subaru hierarchy.. it was in an article/interview in which the person said the hybrid would be put in a small car first. i think the idea to go with the 2.0 DI is a smart move. I wonder if SOA would drop the ej25 and just go with this new DI 2.0 motor in every thing. that would be an excellent way to use an economies of scale by having that same motor EVERYWHERE in the world; i'm sure the 2.0 will be smaller, lower maintenance, better gas mileage and just as powerful as the ej25

It really is a shame that Americans are too dense to even consider diesel as an option.

diesel cars are easier to mod vs gas engines. just dump the fuel in and go(almost)!! and most are built better since they are almost knocking(compression ignition) by design!
think cummins.... bullydog..... common rail.... direct injection.....power commander even!! --keith i've been searching for a EDM junkyard diesels since they came out. super hard to find! |

I just wish they could make a hybrid diesel instead and basically combine the best elements of both worlds. |

It is the regulations. The Audi/VW diesels sell somewhat well, from what I hear. but what other options are there? It is hard to declare something a failure when it isn't an option and barely a choice given. It isn't a failure of a free market system, when the market isn't allowed to be free. Plus, the people have been burned by bad diesels before. Like GM converting gas engines to diesel, and then selling them to the public in the 1980s. Didn't work so well. Some folks remember that. Personally, I'd love a diesel hybrid. Course, I'd probably be the jackass that ran ag diesel in it (no road tax)

No, I do not think this will make Subaru better forward. Standard AWD and the Boxer is what makes a Subaru a Subaru. Also, the threads I start are littered with imature political fighting and I keep my mouth shut about it and let the Moderators deal with it. I do not see you jumping in and telling those people to put it in political playground. Last edited by AVANTI R5; 03-09-2010 at 04:55 AM. Reason: spelling |

Lets see what Subaru can do with some modern technology and innovation before we declare the death of anything. Remember, this is the company that built family sedans that set world speed/endurance records and a production car with a drag coefficient of 0.29 in 1985. |
