Default How many times can you flash the ECU?

With an AP or DeltaTuner, there use to be a limit of about 100 flashes you can do to the ECU. This was the reason for the realtime maps. Using OpenECU or ECUFlash, are there also realtime maps or is it doing a reflash each time?

there may be a theoretical limit but i have never found one in practice and i have tuned several cars that over the years will have accumulated more than 100 flashes

that limit was an early attempt by cobb to drive people to real time tuning and away from open source.

I have flashed the Evo ECU for at least 500 times. Some in the Evo EcuFlash forum have flashed their ECUs for 800+ times.

You know I was thinking this same question the other day and pretty much came to the realization it was a marketing ploy.

I hadn't realized Cobb was the one that started this myth. Can't say it surprises me.

I'm at about 150 flashes on my ECU.

I'm another that has over 150 flashes. Not sure I've ever seen someone brick their ECU due to a flash limit. All the bricked ECUs I've seen were due to poor flashes (laptop dying, cable coming unplugged, battery losing power, etc).

DANG!! It sounds like people flash their cars everytime they start them! Guess we should be glad you can't get a BSOD while driving!

I'm at 4 since '03 and have a spare in my garage because I thought I would be flashing the heck out of it!

Doing it wrong because I have a spare? Or because I've only had to flash it 4 times? There's no need to mess with perfection

maybe it's something about flashing it with accessports that limits the number or life of the ecu???

No cobb said this because of their real time tuning. Using a base map with a real time over lay is not "technically" reflashing..

But I've reflashed probably 200+ times and still good to go.
