Pic# 0628 really gives a good perspective for the relative size of teh hood scoop and wing in relation to the rest of the car.

The scoop is pretty friggin' big...like bigger than the scoops on old muscle cars like Chevelle's from the 70's.
The rear wing reminds me of the 'Superbird' from that same sideview. Big.

Otehrwise the sides of the car are actually kind of boring/sleeper.
I'm definitely going to install a regular WRX trunk lid and keep the big wing in storage.
As for that hood scoop, hmm...

Good job 'Secret Squirrel'!

That hood scoop is huge! Damn that thing is really questionable, it looks like a 4" cowl hood reversed.

Yes, and it looks pretty darn ugly from that angle.

If you're gonna replace the trunk lid with the a WRX why not the hood scoop as well? Presumably they're interchangeable..

The rear deck lid with attached superwing will bolt right off.
A regular WRX lid with or without the low rise wing will bolt in to the same place. I won't even need to replace the lift springs.
I can find a used one at an auto dismantler for cheap and even in my color (silver).

As for the hood scoop, the scoop is larger in all dimensions than the regular WRX. I'll have to look to the aftermarket for a replacement toward it if at all.
Otherwise I'd have to replace the enitre hood & scoop whihc will be more costly than the deck lid.

Also, I'm concerned about performance.
A smaller scoop would result in less air to the intercooler resulting in higher air temps and ultimately less power.
I'm sure Subaru put that monster scoop there for a reason.
One has to wonder about heatsoak with that cooler sitting up top like that. A smaller scoop would only exacerbate the issue.
Now a custom hood with NACA ducts might work equally as well.
That factory scoop reminds me of the bucket on a back-hoe.

Anyway, I'm leasing my STi and plan to keep it in relatively stock form. A new trunk lid and winter wheels/tires will be my only mods.

I don't know if it is bigger. But it has the top lip extended to catch air coming off the front end and force it into the scoop. It definately serves a purpose. It has to sit high enough to catch the air.

How do you have the STi (2004) scoop when parts for it haven't even shipped to dealers yet?

As for your being bigger or smaller, the pic's are out there...you tell us.

The '04 STi scoop looks to be very big though.
Much bigger in length and width at the base than the regular WRX hood scoop.

I think he was saying he has the 02 STI scoop on his 02 WRX.

I don't think that one is quite as large as the 04, but close.

Hmm, thats interesting...

I just got off the phone with a very good friend of mine & ex-coworker who is the parts manager of one the second largest Subie dealer in my region (MD/VA) and he says that not only have no parts been shipped to them but that their systems haven't been updated with the STi's part numbers, nor do they have any digital or hardcover parts reference information as yet.
He says the regional Subie warehouse in Savage, MD that hasn't even recieved their stock on the STi as yet.

When the books do arrive I have a standing order for a full parts & service set.
They are just as excited as me to see an STi come through as several employees want one and/or have orders standing.

In the same phone call I also talked with two Subie 'Master Techs' who have been working on my personal & work Subie's for over a decade and they too report not seeing anything come down the pipeline as yet and are as yet awaiting STI specific training.

In what region is your local dealer in?

Further, can you find out if they have any additional STi related parts in stock or enroute. Such as the intercooler, brake calipers or wheels.
Also would it be possible for you to do some quick measurements on that STi scoop they have (overall height with width & length at the base) for comparison to the stock WRX hood scoop and to verify if its a direct swap or not. Your parts man should be able to tell you this.

Thanks!

I hope someone comes up with a FMIC and a new hood with vents on it.
This way, i can get rid of the view-blocking, air-dragging huge hoodscoop.

In my dreams I'd like to see a FMIC and a hood just like that used on the WRC car with the heat extracor cut out.

I just know one mornign I'm going to find either the neighborhood cat nestled on the IC or birds building a nest in the hood scoop. Maybe I could rig up a few pinwheels to be mounted inside of it.

Does anyone have an idea toward how much the '04 hood heat extractor or complete hood with extractor might cost?

This past weekend I got a wacky idea of imitating this hood in silver on my STi;
