Default Hood Scoop Fix Options??? FIXED!!!

My current hood scoop is breaking down and becoming very unsightly. As shown below. Wondering what would be the cheapest: take off and have someone body fill and repaint the current one, buy another oem one, or does anyone know if there are other options out there???? Thanks for your help in advance.

Noticed a small spot of this, like 1x1, about a month ago and tried to wash/wax/polish. Now it looks like this, my car doesn't run any hotter than normal. only thing I can think of is the High Desert heat and sun exposure.

My scoop is sun burnt pretty badly, but not as bad as yours. I'm planning to use plasti-dip and paint the whole thing. Plasti-dip is pretty durable and easily removable, otherwise have a bodyshop fix it properly.

I'm assuming it happens from getting a bad re-paint job at one point, or if its in an area where they get a lot of weather, sun, and snow etc, possible being a different material, versus the metal hood, it broke down a little faster. it looks like someone took a brillo pad to it though.

my recommendation would be just to get a used one from the classified. I got my OBP scoop fro like 80 bucks on here. you could get it repainted by a body shop for fairly cheap, prep and paint probably would be sub 200 bucks. if you are competant with body work you could sand, paint and get it back on there for pretty much cost of sanding matierals, paint and polishing materials.

All fixed now, used a small bit of Bondo-Glass. Nice thin layer then sanded it down to smooth, wet sanded then primered. I went ahead and Plasti-Dipped it to hopefully make it more durable. Also, the car has never been repainted. Will post a pic soon of the final product.

Here is the finish product back on the car, sorry forgot to take pics as I went, looks fine. I am thinking I will use the Plasti-Dip to do the trunk chrome delete and the trim under the windows...let's just say I dislike chrome.

The finished product doesn't look that great. I'm all for a DYI repair if it can be done to not look like a repair, but for that result, i would have taken it to a paint shop or bought one on the classifieds. That piece is small enough that a shop could have paint matched it for $50-75

Tyvm Drowner, my first debby-downer but thats ok because to each his/ her own. Pic was taken of a dirty car neways so the color looks off but I can appreciate the fact that it does not look professional. Sorry but I'm a military man with not a lot of time on my hands, kind of a rush job.

The matte black of the plastidip does look a bit off with the hood. Maybe using glossifier on the matte could help a bit with the dirt and maybe the color tone?

I'm just saying, it went from sun faded and cracked, to just sun faded looking.

It looks like you did a nice job! I didn't expect to like it as much, but it looks nice. Can you post up a few more pics? That may help out some more.
