You will probably get more responses asking this question in the engine management forum.

No your not wrong, unclescotty gets a little carried away sometimes, he has a wealth of good info and sometimes forgets that people new to this forum and subarus in general still have to learn the simple stuff that he thinks everyone should already know.
I also shifted over from the domestic hotrod scene, and have not regreted it! You'll find that some of the old school info translates over to the imports very well
On your UTEC, disconnect the battery prior to charging. You won't loose any info from the UTEC, it will however reset your factory ECU, so for a couple hundred miles the stock ECU will be relearning, which is not a bad thing.

okay let's try this again..

this time without the OT B.S. - keep that crap in OT

It's quite obvious that some of you guys
have easily forgotten what it's like to be new to these cars

there is a lot of information some of us enthusiasts actually have to share with those who are new to the scene - if you're not interested in doing anything other than mocking the newbies.... stay in OT....

Personally, I don't believe there is a general stereotype of any particular "crowd" being "a good bunch" or otherwise. NASIOC is a large forum with a large body member. I wouldn't find it surprising to read responses with different personality.

Imho, a question about the utec map being reset when power is disconnected would make the manufacturer seem rather silly / irresponsible, thus it would be highly unlikely. However, without knowing which kind of information is stored in volatile or non-volatile memory, I can see why someone might want to be extra safe and ask this question. After all, we know that some of the ECU parameters get reset when power is disconnected. One might wonder whether the map is treated the same way by some aftermarket engine management manufacturer or not. It would be silly to do so, but that doesn't mean it can't be done that way.

Regardless, I believe that NASIOC is a very good medium for getting information about Subarus in general.

my 2 cents
