Silver STi swap 380wph!!

Default Calling all EJ257 (04-05) STi owners with a built bottom end

So i have been reading alot of threads and cant decide.

i am building my bottom end as my timing belt skipped and need to replace some valves so i figure its a good time to go with forged rods and pistons.

i want to also replace my crank and con rod bearings.

i have been looking at the 8.9:1 100mm Wiseco's 2618 alloy with eagle H beam con rods.
i will be putting a 1.0mm head gasket on to hopefully bring the compression ratio down to 8.5:1 with my cosworth heads.

i have read the wiseco vs. cp pistons thread and have looked at the two. i must say i can't decide.
i am looking for in the end to be able to handle 450 whp currently im at 380whp on a fp green at 18psi.
it will be a DD in canada so there will be cold starts in the winter, but i will be tracking the car once in a while during the summers.

i dont like the idea of alot of piston slap, but with the huge range of temps this engine will be started and run in im kinda stuck on the clearances. 0.0030"???

not to sure about the rods at all... i have read good things about eagle and but not to sure who else there is to choose from.

So lets hear what your opinions are and your setups (any brand pistons) are... with clearances

Thanks!

for got about bearings... looking at cosworth for both but am not sure if they come in different sizes of what kind of clearances i should be looking at for the stock crank

MY BUDGET for the pistons, rods and bearings is $1300 not interested in 1000 dollar pistons and 900 dollar rods as they wont be needing to handle tons of power, maybe max 25 psi boost.

the stock STi rods can handle 25 psi without a hiccup. Just get the pistoms and bearings and spend the extra on a GOOD machine shop

I have built several engines within the hp parameters you are wanting to use....

here is my advice:

1. ACL race bearings
2. Wiseco coated pistons with .003 bore clearance, engine block must be torque plate bored and honed to achieve proper clearance at top and bottom of bore
3. use factory STI rods with ARP rod bolts installed and triple torque cycled - good to 7700rpm and 600whp+ (as long as you stay under 7700rpm
4. Use cometic head gaskets
5. balance the rotating assembly
6. Use ARP head studs, triple-torque cycle

PAY SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE IT BEFORE!!!!

I get $2800 for a built 2.5L as listed above... that includes a good used shortblock that I have to start with, so there is no core charge....

I'd also go with custom pistons to achieve the desired CR rather than the thicker HG. Wiseco will make it if you ask. A local shop near me sells custom 8.5:1 Wisecos also if you are interested

I'd go with custom piston to get your desired 8.5: CR rather than using a thicker HG. There is a shop by me that stock there own spec 8.5:1 Wiseco pistons in 99.5mm and 100mm bore.

What's the CC volume on your Cosworth heads?
