Default Strange noise when slowing down?

Hey whats up guys, just got my 09 STI back about two months ago and it's been making this sound when I slow down.. It's like a grinding noise but not as hard as when you grind your gears, more like a sandpaper noise or like a saltshaker? It's not when I use the brakes though, only when I'm off the gas to slow down.. just wondering if this is normal?

are you in a low gear? say first or second? are you letting off the gas at a relatively high speed for the respective gear? if so that's a groan from the tranfer case. use your clutch.

no expert here by any means. but i find that the STi's are very noisy beasts. there's a lot of mechanical movement in our drive-trains and likely poor sound dampening. but i agree with above post: have your dealer check it out; it can't hurt.

It's something like that I guess, but I'm not even at a really high speed or anything, it's more like when I'm getting out of my neighborhood I'll slowly make my way up to 2500-3000RPMish and just let it drop down by itself before the turn. If I shifted I would pretty much have to shift back in literally 2 seconds, but thanks that might be it. Sorry guys haha I probably should've been more specific in my first post

even if your not on the brakes it can still be the brakes if they're chewed up. Inf act, all GRB STI brakes sound like that even when your not on em and they're a bit haggard.

There also seems to be a squeaking noise coming from the front every so often when I'm in gear.. it's noticeable with the windows down and the radio volume at like 10ish.. only when I'm in gear though?

I have the same issue in my 09 WRX, I'm not sure if it's just the clutch might be slightly chewed up (they are organic in stock form) so that it might be that but likewise, only under about 2500 rpm...that can't even really be considered engine braking at that point. Yet, under even hard accelerating I can't hear it at any point on the tach. Also though, I get the same noise at idle...which is why I believe that possibly it's just rubbing splintered material off the clutch on the pressure plate...if that makes any sense and obviously that could be the case in or out of gear for me. Then during accelerating and driving you usually have the rpm's a bit above 2000, at least I do with a 5 speed transmission. I may replace the clutch though and I'll update whatever I find in my explorations! (Note: I have almost 45k miles on mine and have driven it pretty hard at times so a clutch issue would be no surprise...only real issue is I don't have a clutch issue that I can tell just that weird noise. On a pull it feels like it holds just fine.)
