nothing special for the r160......a quality 80w90 for street use is all good if it is REALLY hot where you are all the time...say over 85*F/29*C...you could use a heavier oil in it...or just change the 80w90 more often |

Can we get a sticky that lists the most current cocktail?
That way Uncle Scotty can update it and keep it current, rather than having to read 100 pages to find out what the 'right' mix is. Thanks |

what??? are you KIDDING??? they are more likely to post a stickie of the guys who have posted uoa's of the cocktail that was used in an old worn out transmission with 241,000 miles on it...or those idiots who made a big deal about it sepearting after months and months....or those who claim that it eats little children for breakfast....or other crazy, stupid **** |

scotty what are your thoughts on redlines NS 75-90 GL5&6? (what redline make that is closest to the subaru OEM fill)?
and is it worth combining it with heavyweight or something? |

damn that's a shame. worse than the oem fill?
there also seems to be some conflicting results in the andrewtech thread. there it's being said to stay away from heavyweight O_o Last edited by vicious_fishes; 07-22-2012 at 10:06 AM. |

Why is it so hard to find something to put in my tranny that wont destroy it yet let it shift good! I'm not trying to stir the pot but the uncle scottys mixes that have been tested (some were not just tested on 200k+cars... There were a few 50 to 80k trannys that were in good shape) had insane iron content versus just using oem lube. Care to elaborate on this? All testing was done by a third party, so no bias. Something is clearly not right if a lube is increasing gear wear.

i have had THOUSANDS of PM's and emails over the years all but a VERY few have been positive the high iron may NOT be gear wear and I know several cars that have used the cocktail for 150k+ miles and still going NOTHING is gonna last forever |

the lightweight 'wears out' and I noticed an almost immediate improvement in shift action with the heavyweight version of the cocktail...even when at 20*F |

I understand that nothing last forever but 6 to 700 % more iron in just a 20k use? I think that seems obscene. I understand you get tons of PMs but what good does that do me? I don't see proof of them. I'm seriously just trying to fill my tranny with something decent and I'm doing my research.

Before the cocktail was invented, I tried 75W90NS alone and 75W90 plus shockproof it was alright, but synchromesh does help. In my experience, the oil used in the 2 quarts of the cocktail are not particularly critical. IMO 1 qt. and ~0.5 qt. synchromesh are the critical components and the rest can be just about any decent gear oil. <--- 180k on a "glass" 02 WRX tranny with an 18G@22psi on E85. The cocktail works. It won't eat your tranny from the inside out. I've had shockproof in my tranny for all but the first ~20-25k miles, which is about 10 years in total. If a tranny was gonna get slowly weakened by shockproof, it would be mine. I'd think that my power / torque levels would also result in quite the spectacular failure if it did weaken things in there. i'll keep it in mind though - can always do another one without the hypoid pretty easily. unless you recommend something different for the 09's? |

My all LW Shockproof fill was perfect at first. But now, I get some 'kickback' from slow 2-3 shifts. If I shift quickly, it 'seems' fine or I don't notice a clash.

the reason it does that is NOT the 'hypoid'....it is whatever syn lube you used....the 'nulon full synth' the 'syn' is the issue in these transmissions....too slick for the synchros...they dont spin down fast enough and clash |

Tried the cocktail to get ready of a nasty little 4th gear grind. Worked liked a charm and has been good for the last 3 weeks.
Thanks, Scotty! |
