Post Best mods for the buck?

Say you have a bone stock RS and $1000 to spend on mods. What would you do first? What mod gives you the best bang for the buck?

Short shifter - Kartboy is popular http://www.kartboy.com
Don't forget the Cusco shifter bushings.

18mm or 20mm rear sway bar to adjust the handling from understeer to neutral or throttle on oversteer.

Suspension - choose your weapon here...
- Rallispec fast road set up http://www.rallispec.com
- Prodrive P1 (that kit will eat up most of your $$$) http://www.spdusa.com
- KYB AGX struts/springs of your choice
I'm installing these struts with Eibach SPD springs next week. Adjustable dampening on these struts. Search around for the best deal.

Ganz CAI (Cold Air Intake)

Rear strut tower bar - Front doesn't make that much difference.

New tires - Kuhmo 712's seem popular and cheap. (My springtime purchase)

Exhaust backbox - our cars don't gain from a full catback system. Popular choices are Stromung, Scoobysport, STi.

Hope this helps...

$1000? Easy. $975 to Skip Barber, if you haven't already done so. I ran into one of my old instructors the other evening, and he gave my car a wringing out. Man, I knew it was capable, but those guys are GOOD.

Your NEXT kilobuck should be able to get you a reasonable replacement for those RE92s, and a bigger swaybar. Get one from an Outback, rather than bothering with more expensive alternatives.

Then keep an eye out for GBs on ver. 5 struts, unless you want adjustability, then go for some KYB AGXs. Springs are an open field, dependent upon how low ya wanna go.

This should have you right around a grand.

Resist the urgings of cheap and easy horsepower. There are more gains to be had from tweaking the chassis. I think that my Legacy GT wagon has plenty of power. The 500 lbs less RS kicks out the jams, especially with a manual.

Most importantly, have fun and be safe. The Scooby gods have been taking sacrifices of late, as Trunkmonkeys cringe...
