Default depends what you want

Bling? 19's <<but they will ride like crap, and are going to rob you of HP
Performance? 16's <<<lighter, smaller diameter=less weight far out on the rotating unit
Best middle ground? IMHO and genral concensus is 17's, they look good, and ride resonably.
I myself want to give 18's a try, because if you shop carefully for a light wheel, and light tires, they dont rob you of much power (if you already have 17's, which I do) but I hear they ride REALLY harshly

If you're using stock brakes.....I vote for none of the above. 16". Cheaper, very light if you use RS wheels, easy to get and replace. WRX stock 16's are even lighter, cheaper and easier to get.

16, 17 or 18s I don't really see anybody having any problems w/ the wrx... except for people trying to fit wider tires.

for wagons i recommend going w/ 215 width... and 225-235 for the sedan.

other then the tire choice i think you'll find harsher rider as you go up in diameter of rim. Less tires = Less cushion.

I think if you must upgrade sizes, 17" is definitely the best all-around choice. Especially if you want any kind of practicality, unless the roads you drive on are smooth as glass. 18"s are probably the ultimate insofar as performance goes, that is if you combine them with a great suspension, good tires and roads without a lot of potholes. ScoobySport said a while back that the "WRX belongs in 18"s" but hey, that's just one opinion.

Personally? 16" with 205/50-16 on 16x7" lightweight, forged wheels is a killer combo. 50-series tires were used overseas, and even on the US Imprezas many years back... But I think the US/Canada market went to 55-series several years ago to add to the "cushy" factor. Or that's what I hear, anyway.

I can tell you that 205/50 yields a more accurate speedometer reading. Talk to North_Ursalia in NESIC... he tested it.

i am getting rims to and i think i am going to go 18's i heard they dont ride that well but i figure if i dont like them i can sell them for enough to get some 17's easy.
