I'm really really starting to want an XT! I wish these would have come out before I bought my 12 impreza, it was actually my plan to get Forester but I didn't want the 4eat and couldn't wait any longer. I wonder how much I can get for trade in...or for that matter, how much I'd lose if I did do a trade in :/

The media embargo on publishing driving impressions about the new Forester ended at 11 PM EST and so we now have a host of articles available online.

The FB is still a "new" design, compared to the EJ that it replaced. |

Had it been paired with direct injection or start-stop like the JDM/ EDM models, it might be something to write home about. Instead they saw the sales numbers and took another dump under the hood for the USDM Forester until 2013. |

^ I would expect the XT to start around $28k.

Some of the reviews point out that max HP on the XT drops from 250 to 230 when octane drops from 93 to 91. I imagine the XT's max HP would drop below 200 if you run it on 87 octane.
Running 87 octane in the new XT might not reduce highway fuel economy when cruising at a steady speed on a level highway. However I do think highway fuel economy would suffer while driving on I-70 up to the Eisenhower Tunnel or Vail Pass, because engine load would be much higher and spark advance would have to be retarded to avoid knock. |

X-MODE:
"The '14 Forester also offers an off-road bonus. A one-button program called X-Mode changes several control parameters for off-pavement use, including throttle/torque map, stability management and torque split, and it adds hill-descent control." (Autoweek) "In this mode the differential clutches tighten by 25 percent, throttle response is softened and the transmission holds low gear longer and doesn't lock its torque converter. The brake-based torque-vectoring system more aggressively intervenes to combat wheelspin, and there's an effective hill descent control program." (Automobile Mag) "After our laps we also had an opportunity to sample Subaru's new low-speed traction system, dubbed X-Mode (maybe the X-Men had a hand its development?), which reduces wheelspin dramatically to whatever wheel needs it most when the going gets slippery. The system can be activated at speeds below 13 mph and disengages after 25 mph. X-Mode's hill-climbing control demonstration centered on a Forester getting its two left-side wheels stopped on a set of rollers on an incline. In X-Mode it easily moved off the rollers with little effort. Let's just say the Hyundai Tucson and Toyota Rav4 all-wheel-drive models also on hand for the demo did not fare nearly as well. Hill decent control is also part of the X-Mode package, which takes Subaru's all-wheel drive prowess to the next level of sophistication." (MT) Last edited by Snow Drift; 11-14-2012 at 01:00 PM. |

This is why I don't trust reviews.

But how easy would it be for Autoblog to be right, and me to actually be able to consider a 6-speed 250hp DIT XT Touring, and figure out how to fix the ridiculous looks. the '10-12 Legacy GT had it... it will hold up, this is FRAKKING RIDICULOUS. And it would be the only vehicle in it's segment to actually offer a stick combined with AWD, good power, and options, even if it is Build-to-Order factory specification only, and not forced on dealer inventory lists. If the XT had a manual and a 2.0T turbo, they would be a market leader. I would have traded my impreza up in a heartbeat. 28mpg and a manual. I spend about $10 more a week on fuel, but gain tons of fun!!!!! |

How do we convince SOA and FHI that "this time we'll actually buy them" after the 2005-6 ones languished on the lots?

Does anyone know what turbo the USDM FA20 DIT uses? The Legacy DIT is a twinscroll correct?

Enter this model, which pretty much looks like the rest of the competition dimensionally, but also offer sporty 6 speed manual, turbo, and high mpg. That's a winning formula when compared to the bland Rav4, CRV, Outlander, Escape, equinox etc.... It would be the new WRX for someone with a family. Drive them slowly to soccer practice, then take the windy long way home from work. It wouldn't hurt sales to throw on a few STI badges as well, even if it is dealer installed accessories. Give it some reputational street cred. Last edited by gggplaya; 11-14-2012 at 03:00 PM. |
