Ugh! I just replaced my fender liner last week (rock busted the old one) and now I need to do gauges. Did'nt even think of this route. No problem on getting fender liner out, last time I just got frustrated and hollered "Woman!". My wife took over and removed all of the pop rivets/screws. warning though only one set of hands should work with screw driver prying on pop pins....I think she stuck me on purpose |

you dont even have to pull the liner out for the fender vent mod. just pull on the fender vent trim (where the silver sti or wrx band is). It just pops out from the top down. Just pry itr out enough to pull out the thin rubber strips that restrict airflow. then push the fender trim back in. super easy.
air running over the fender vents creates a vacuum that draws hot air out of the engine bay. |

I did my mechanical boost gauge and my AF gauge via this route last Friday. I was really surprised that I had enough cable for my AEM 30-4100 UEGO to reach the sensor (3 feet back from the turbo on my test pipe). It all worked perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello firstly not a true NASIOC but I am Impreza owner from Scotland.
Have been looking into Gauge install for a few months now, I have gone for the MBR vent gauge pod as SMY Cluster does not fit UK Spec MY08 at this time. Anyway I hardly ever use the vents in middle of dash (only on the 1 Summers Day a year we get over here......) OCD great post for a Newbie to things like this, don't get me wrong I understand the workings BUT usually make a mess of install. But this time with the step by step I went for it and found another way to route cables from engine bay to interior. Please see a few pics of my install, I am currently still waiting on the MBR gauge pod but wanted to get all the cables in and power them up as i bought them from the states. I will post pics once couple as well. Hope you enjoy. DruBuc Shiny Shiny........... Gauge Pod Access http://i534.photobucket.com/albums/e...I/IMG_0234.jpg Glove Box Removed. Installed my defi gauge using this writeup and a few others as I was installing my gauge without using the smy setup. Was successful minus me dropping my cluster hood on the cement and scuffing it...
Question though. What psi are others seeing? I'm seeing 17 psi fully stock besides the gauge. Seems it should be just under 15 psi fully stock for a 2012 sti. |

Wow. impressive write-up. Definitely going into my project folder for when I pull the trigger on my gauge set-up.

Have a quick question, hopefully this hasn't been answered already and I missed it. First off, awesome write up.
Second, I wired my gauges, exactly the same, fues taps and all. When I turn my car on, the gauge flickers 5-6 times in a second or two, then fully stays lit and does 2 needle sweeps. It looks from others installs that the gauge comes on fully and does 1 needle sweep. What could possibly be wrong here? Thanks! |

Sounds kind of like an intermittent connection. I would check your wires, especially your ground wire and make sure all the connections are good.
Does it ever flicker after it completes the two sweeps? (like when you are driving down the road) |

I'll recheck the wiring, but this isn't my first wiring rodeo so I'd be surprised if I did shotty work, but you never know. Thanks again. |

wow... great write up! i ordered a Defi oil pressure gauge and will tackle this soon. i already have the SPT (mechanical) Boost gauge on my SMY gauge pod and i wish i'd waited and done research to do both of them at the same time. i like the look of the Defi - who knows, maybe i'll sell the SPT and get the Defi down the line. -jesus, modding sucks! Also back on topic, I found this write up long ago and bookmarked it. Have a Defi boost gauge coming in next week. This should make it pretty stupid proof. Thanks O.C.D! |

Got rid of my WRX 6 months ago but I am glad you all still reference this how to. I haven't killed the pics because of how many people us it. Glad I could provide help even after I left.
