i got my Defi oil pressure gauge today.

everything looks good and i'm fairly confident in tackling this install.

my only questions is regarding the 3amp fuses.

1. The orange and red lines have inline fuzes on then. Do I use these IN ADDITION TO the 3amp mini-blade fuses at the fuse-taps? or use ONE of the two?

-much appreciated.

okay, so it appears you do need the 2nd fuse on the fuse taps.

i wired it just like the instructions in the OP. the interior wasn't difficult because i already had my SPT boost gauge in the SMY cowl.

from under the hood, i did just like the OP. i removed the alternator and the intercooler to run the wire from the oil pressure sending unit. *again, i'd already ran my boost vacum line through one of the plugs, so this one was actually easier because you didn't need a coat hanger.

if i could do it again, i would have just ONE of the two plugs to run both the vaccum line and wire for both gauges. i could see this being a LOT easier to just use Defi Gauges and going through the firewall vs. the fender well. YMMV.

another thing, i like the little fake limiter bezel ring that the Defi Gauge came with, i'm going to try and find one for the SPT to run it for "target" boost...

sorry for the crappy phone pics...

Left side plug: vacum line

right side plug: oil pressure sender wires / line

How hard is it to get into the radio harness for the constant, keyed and illumination? I'm considering changing the stock head unit and when I do I can wire up nice and neat into the "middle man" harness between the stock radio harness plug and the plug for the head unit.

I may delay getting the head unit for a little bit, so in the meantime i'd probably hook into the fusebox... I'm just not a fan of it. I'd rather run into the radio area and pick up there. Is this path not ideal? Is there any reason nobody wired their gauges this way?

Duck, The radio would be fine from an electrical point of view. I think most people either don't know about the radio harness or they want a nice new clean path for the power (not that the gauges draw much). New fuses are also better from a troubleshooting point of view, if something happens later (i.e. a fuse blows) and you have things on separate circuits then it is a lot easier to figure out what area needs attention.

new fuses? or the add a fuse/circuit that kind of piggybacks onto another fuse?

I'm not too sure how the add a fuses work, are there two slots, one for existing fuse slot and the other for the new circuit?

Its just easier to tap the fuse box. I have a breakout harness hooked up for my sound processor and amp so the head unit was not an option for me.

Duck, The two slots on top of the fuse tap are two different circuits. The power going into the hot prong gets split out to form a new circuit. Here is a quick picture I threw together in MS Paint. If you have any more questions please let me know.

I installed my Defi gauge last Friday and I knew going in that everyone said it was a great match. I did plenty of research and decided on this gauge for a few reasons, the match being one of the bigger reasons. It really does fit well! If only that needle was white

I left the other side of my SMY plugged with a silver trimmed plug for the time being, I'll likely put oil pressure in it at a later date. I'm undecided but knew the boost was priority before further modification!

Are you saying the gauges can get their power directly from the fuse panel in the dash?

Yes. The OP in this thread has excellent pictures. You tap the fuses to get power and illumination for the gauges.

Or you can tap the radio - the fuses are easy and safe.
