This is terrible news! I'm glad the guys at the shop can move on to bigger and better opportunities. But it is hard to find a shop that does great work, has friendly employees, and never tries to put one over on you. Dent Sport Garage is such a shop! They recently saved me from paying way too much for a fuel pump that was actually not needed.

Alex, Nick, and the rest of the DSG team,

Thanks for your years of service. I was the punk with the beat up wrx coming in with a different form of transportation every time (skateboard, bike, walking, pogostick, whatever). You guys are the best and I won't trust anyone else with my wrx (or future Subaru). I'll never forget Nick getting me to the T station in under 3 minutes from the shop (thank you again)

I've moved out of New England for a few months but was planing a return... that was going to also include a new subie to get a DSG tune on. Without you guys around, I don't think I'm in a huge rush back to get a new car.

Again, thanks for keeping the NE scene awesome, and I wish you all the best of luck. Keep us all updated on where you end up.

This sucks! Closest shop by far, and a great bunch of guys that have helped me out more times than I can remember with anything from what parts to get to trying to fix a mysterious squeak for hours on end. Best of luck guys.

Also my Tomei EL header I had you guys install about a month ago is now cracked, looks like I need to order a new one and make an appointment asap!

Wow, sorry to hear Alex, didn't expect to find this. It's too bad the industry has evolved the way it has, but as you point out, this has maybe been a long time coming, especially given the general state of the economy. Recognizing that and acting accordingly should be commended, it isn't always easy to do.

Thank you guys for letting me be a part of DSG, they are fond memories. Wish you all the best going forward and will be in touch soon.

Louis,

The time when we worked together was probably the most fun era of the shop's history. We had some pretty wild times outside of the shop too! I wish you were able to stay for the duration but it's probably better for your own wallet and sanity that you didn't. You made such huge gains for us early on in this community. We never forgot that.

Matt at DSG tuned my WRX back in January 08. At the time it had about 11K miles on it. Now it has 96k miles and has never let me down and running strong as ever.

So glad I was able to sneak in a stage 2 tune! Matt got 298/325 out of my car on a nice safe tune. I have one sticker on my WRX and it's DSG. This shop will be missed.

Maybe instead of being a dick and bashing them on the internet (which is useless, because they're closing anyways) you could talk to them. Surely they'd be willing to help.

Matt, Alex, and others bent over backwards to help me with my car multiple times. The prices were beyond fair, they even did a bunch of extra labor for free that I was more than willing to pay for. I would certainly have had them do more work on my car had they not been so far away. I'll always rock the DSG sticker on my roof rack.

Josh I must admit your last engine was not our best work. I have no explanation for that and I have offered to make everything right.

You carry a little anger because you think we're responsible for a strange mark on your paint which we had nothing to do with and also a new engine that we had nothing to do with that consumes oil.

You never asked to save your old parts. You noted that in an email to me. We're in the process of cleaning out the shop and your up pipe and injectors were lost. You then told me that two downpipe bolts fell out on a downpipe that you installed as if it were my fault.

You approached me for the missing parts MONTHS later, not the week after, or two weeks after.

At our expense and months after the job was done, we bought you an injector bracket and some other parts to the tune of over $120 dollars just two weeks ago and shipped them to you priority mail. We don't re install injector brackets on engines or some other brackets because they are useless and intrusive on a car used in competition.

You claimed that your car needs the brackets to be "in class" which makes no sense since you have a built motor and a stock turbo but that's besides the point.

I have fielded over 200 emails from you in two years. I have tolerated your compulsion and your accusations for a long time. I tolerated you friending me on stupid Facebook even. What a joke, what a slap in the face.

You had Vigilant build your last motor, Bren tune it yet you still emailed me over 20 times for advice about why your engine was using oil. Why would you email me if you didn't trust me?

What other shops have a history of winning competition with Subarus in New England that will work on your car? Are you suggesting none of the rally, track or hillclimb community knows "nothing about cars"

You're an expert now Josh- you've pulled your own engine. From here forward you will never have a mechanical problem again.

Talk to me when you've built 300 and sent them all into the wild, each exposing your reputation, to be driven and flogged by internet mechanics like yourself who run them low on oil, modify their own tunes and ask the stupidest, most absurd questions that demonstrate a complete lack of basic automotive understanding.

And again, I'm sorry yours wasn't as good as it could have been. That I take responsibility for. Such is motorsports, such is life. Sometimes projects don't come out perfectly. To make a statement like "it's a shop for people who don't know about engines" or whatever you said is some basic kid stuff. Like a lot of other people your grinding your axe a little too late and that's because you'd rather get this one in under the buzzer than feel like a neophyte.

In my experience (and from what I read, a lot of others) they go above and beyond to make things right. They've fixed stuff *I* screwed up and have always been nothing but reasonable if you approach them with the same reason and respect. Let's see any company or dealership match that level of courtesy. Most companies will just show you the door and leave you with a fraking coupon for more crappy service.

It's probably people like you (and to a degree, myself) that are to blame for these guys packing up the shop. It's our loss.

Two weeks ago Josh didn't know what a leakdown test was. Josh declined to have us tune his new engine and took it to Bren and now in his build thread he's writing that having the AFR at "the old" 10.8 instead of 11 at WOT caused the cylinders to wash. This is the kind of stuff I had to deal with.

Let me tell everyone what the four of us have done in the name of customer service. A couple of years ago we had two Subaru engine builds going on at once. There was a problem at the machine shop with the heads. Problems happen. The valves didn't seal well on any of the 4 heads. We had to pull the finished motors and disassemble, new studs, new gaskets, back to the machine shop, then do the job over. That's one time and we lost about 8k to make things perfect

In November of this year we had two high-end sleeved blocks fail- one from a shifted sleeve and another for reasons unknown- probably bad gas. They were both over $10k to build. We replaced them both for free. 20k OUT THE WINDOW. That was only two months ago. Imagine how many times things like this happen over the course of 10 years! Imagine if we said "we didn't cause this so we can't cover it" That would have kept us in business. What I'm saying is that the liability of fulfilling dreams based on unrealistic magazine articles and internet posts is not a good business to be in.

I deal with a lot of shops all across the country. I deal with the owners, the tuners, the techs.

One common theme, is that people constantly try to out-expertise the experts theyre asking help from.

Ive been in business management since I was 16, own several small businesses myself. I see it first hand, day in, day out.

Its extremely tiring. Its extremely annoying. It tests your patience to the limits.

Anyone who can deal with that for more than a short period gets the greatest applause from me. I on the other hand cant do it. I have to hire managerial staff and limit my exposure to the general public.

You guys will be missed for sure. While I didnt have too much work done by DSG except some small work when I first got my car, Ive spent some time dealing with them over email or at the track, and I sure hope I continue to run into you at the track. Figuratively, obviously.

Who are you? I don't know anyone who drives an EVO8 at autocross events locally, and certainly haven't conversed with any EVO8 owners lately.

The parts you saw on Ebay were actually from a 2008. I built a motor for a customer with a 2008 STI and we sold his old parts including injectors and downpipe. He had full control over the auction listing and got credited on his bill. This is to say they weren't yours. Regardless you left your old parts at our shop with no indication of picking them up until months later. I told you I was looking for them and that I thought they were still around.

Fair enough! but that's not what you wrote (not "said"). You literally wrote we don't know what we're doing, and that when confronted by a person who does, we are intimidated. These two statements are quite different. Especially in light of my freely admitting that I didn't do my best work on your bracket-adding and windage tray (when adding the killer B pan)

Your assumption that paying me for one job means that you can ask about jobs other shops/individuals got paid to do is incorrect and I suggest that going forward, unless you plan on really becoming an expert on this that you augment your communication style and frequency if you hope to have any professional help going forward.
