Oh yeah, +100. It's one of the coolest looking hatchbacks I've seen in the last 10 years. And I love hatchbacks.

Don't get me wrong. I like my Impreza Sport Premium's looks. I like the roof rails, and I like the Sport's extra plastic trim pieces. I like the way it drives, and it's fantastic in the snow. Reliability-wise, I never fear that it won't get me to my destination and then home again. The fuel economy for an AWD car is fantastic.

But to me, that new Mazda3 looks better, and will certainly have better road feel than the steering in our Imprezas. It will have more amenities. It will likely be faster, too, but I guess that remains to be seen.

It will never have the AWD of our Subarus, that's for sure.

Car beauty, like any beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. It's a very subjective thing.

At the end of the day, the Impreza/XV may very well win the practicality contest. But the Mazda3 will win on a more emotional level, IMHO. I'd love it if the Mazda3 connected with me on an emotional level like the VW TDI did (when it was running correctly), while at the same time providing the Impreza's reliability.

Getting off topic with this Mazda stuff. Bottom line is that the Mazda is not AWD. The Subaru's are and that's why we luv em. The new Hybrid XV is the most interesting thing out there as far as I am concerned.

I just feel like a 16 year old sitting in a Mazda.
I typically speed, and the Subes just dont draw unwanted attention from the law.
I agree though, Steve- its all totally subjective.
I guess one of the things I like about Subaru's is that around here you get an "exclusive" feeling owning/driving them, there arent many around and they cost more than Hondas and the like.
Owning something like a Hyundai just feels blah- just another jelly bean.
Just my opinion of course, different strokes for different folks.

+1 for no attention. I pass cops at 20-30mph over regularly and they don't notice me. They're busy getting the speed of the guy in the a6 that just lit up his brake lights.

That exclusive feeling might be because you're in FL. Up here in NYS, Subarus of all models and ages are all over the place. Clearly the northeast provides weather conditions that make Subaru's awesome AWD system very desirable.

Right. well I did say "around here"...
I think awd is awesome in the liquid snow, and all the forest/dirt roads around here.
Hitting rain puddles at speed is far less dangerous in subarus.

I couldn't agree with you more. I am in no way emotionally connected with my Impreza and I think that's why I tend to always see the negative things about the car. To me, Subarus are very plain Jane, boring apliances. Mazdas, on the other hand, especially the new 3, really give me that level of excitement and emotion I'm looking for in a vehicle. I can't wait to see one in person and test drive it! Rumor is they'll be mating the 6-MT to the 2.5 in a year or two.

If they mated the 6MT to the turbo-diesel engine in the Mazda3, I'd probably start having nocturnal emissions.

Wow! Those are some mean looking tires you got on there. Do you drive mostly off road?

Team Dynamics Rally wheels
15x7 +48

General Grabber AT2 tires
225/70-15

Tires are good on the road also. I mostly got them for their high tear wear (60k mile warranty), for use in snow (snowflake rated), and aggressive look of course!

I mostly drive everyday on the road lol...

Oh, ok. Those General's are pretty popular around here with the toyota truck crowd.
Your car is pretty badass, Brian.

That rim/tire combo looks great! Good to know that 15' rims will fit over the XV's brakes. BTW, what made you decide to go with that size tire?

Slightly larger than stock and snowflake rated. Large choosy sidewalls and they can be aired down for soft sand.

Selection is greater and prices lower when you go with 15's for offroad type tires.
Generals are a good value and have been around for a long while.

If I'm not mistaken, Continental owns General now (which is a good thing, IMO).

General makes a damn good tire in my opinion. I use to have their gmax as03 on my Wrx and it was a great all around tire. Rating higher in almost every category then it's more expensive counter parts.

Another reason to choose the general in this AT style is bfg Goodrich doesn't make many smaller sizes.

Yes, when my original Yoko Avids wear out, I plan to replace them with G-MAX AS-03 tires.

However, I will only do that because I run dedicated snow tires in the winter. I would probably make a different choice if I was running the same tire in all seasons.
