Yeah, that is pretty funny. I keep it low on purpose... it's faster that way! I actually took the night picture first, right after I got everything back together, and went for a drive to check it. While I was out, I filled it up to make sure the fuel gauge was close. When I got home I took the 'day' picture in the garage with a droplight and the flash on the camera.

Oh yeah, another tip. If you keep track of your gas mileage (like I do), jot down the trip odometer mileage before you remove the cluster. You will hit the reset button in the process.

I did that so I new were to put the needle back on

I have now gotten my gas and temp to the right readding. But the speedo and tack work but with stick responce and slow... I haven't gotten back in to try to pull them fairther away... If it still does not work I will go out and get a new cluster and I will try it the other way by making a cut and slidding it over the needle.

Question back from the dead...

I'll be installing the WFG overlays this weekend. After some preliminary exploration of the instrument bezel, I am perplexed by the security alarm light. I was able to disconnect the other three bezel switches, but the alarm light/button seems hardwired to wherever it is the wires go. I didn't feel like pulling at it and ripping wires out. How/where do you disconnect the alarm light/button?

Thanks in advance,
AG

I was completely lazy about it and left it connected. I lifted that portion up over the steering column towards the left and let it hang there by the wires. I know that has potential for trouble, but I just tried not to knock it around too much while I worked.

Good Luck-
Rich

Thumbs up Hmmm...

Works for me. As long as it gets the job done. We'll give that a try this weekend. Maybe even have some pics. I don't think anyone's really seen my car lately.

Thanks much,
AG

Thumbs up All better now...

Okay, just a quick update. The weather finally cooled down enough for me to feel like going out to the garage and pulling the instrument cluster back out. I managed to get the speedometer set back to read correctly. I’m now running 59 mph when it indicates 60mph. That’s pretty much standard speedometer error, I think. I also took the time to mess around some more with the tachometer, to try and correct the jerkiness. I suppose I just needed to take some time off from the installation, because this time around I managed to get it working smoothly. So if the shaft comes out with the pointer, you’re not automatically doomed. It may just take a little more work, that’s all. So now everything reads and works correctly, and I’m pleased with the way the gauges look.

Now, back to more ‘performance’ mods…

richeich- ever had any problems with the tech not reading right? After i got mine installed my tech seems to be moving really sloooow to where the pointer should be. As for the Fuel it stops at3/4 full when i filled up the tank from 1/2 full. Same thing with the Temp, it takes a long time to get to where its at as well. Any advise on trying to get this thing working back to normal?

I guess I got lucky, because my Temp and Fuel gauges both worked just fine after the install. Has the fuel gauge shown a full tank at all since you did the mod? If it doesn't ever show a full tank, then you just need to reset the pointer so it's more accurate. As for reading slowly, did the shafts come out with the pointers, or did just the pointers come off alone? If the whole shaft came out, maybe you've got them mashed back in there a bit too hard, and it's causing them to drag a bit. The shaft came out with the pointer on my tach, and I had a terrible time getting it back in there just right. In the process of chasing it, I saw it moving slow several times, but on those occasions I'm not sure if I had it too tight, or too loose, or maybe just not straight. That's where the jerkiness in the tach had come from, not having it set back in perfectly in place. I know getting everything back to normal is a pain in the rear, but I don't see any very good ways to get the white faces on there without removing the pointers.

Good Luck-
Rich

(Maybe someone from your neck of the woods could take a look at it. If we were closer, I'd offer to help.)

Thanks for the tips Rich. I think i'll have to redo everything and try to make it as accurate as possible. It could be that i mashed the shafts in a little to hard which causes it to move so slowley. At least the speedo is accurate

V, it turns out we are't going on a vacation as my wife has to get some medical exams. I didn't feel like driving all the way down to AL since she's on a driving restriction as well.

Just let me know when you want to work on it. I just might put my overlays on as well.
