I don't think it looks unrealistic at all The only problem I see with it is that it's not quite as sharp as it could be, but otherwise I like it a lot

My brother or the person taking it (me)? Another question, if somebody wants to use your work on their website for whatever reason, do you contact the person in the picture for additional approval? Thanks.
Wow that's a big load of BS. This is EXACTLY why I put a big-ass copyright watermark on ALL of my photos. Professional or not, photographers get taken advantage of WAY too much. I know we live in a sue-happy world, but this is one of those things that all photographers, professional and amateur, should put their foot down about.

The fact is, YOU took the photo, so YOU have 100% copyright to it. Since your brother is in the photo, he has rights to his likeness being used in the photo, but those should be paid by you as the photographer or by whomever company would have hired you and your brother. The key here is that this company is using your photo without your permission to make money. If this ever were to go to court, you'd have to prove that you took the photo originally and not for the company, and then they would owe you royalties for using your photo without your permission. Since you're the photographer, it's on you to go after them. If this happened with one of my photos, they'd be receiving a cease and desist letter from my lawyer to remove the use of my photo, and if they don't remove it, then they're going to be taken to small claims court.

As far as a company asking for permission, they must contact the photographer for permission first, not the person in the photo. The photographer always owns the copyright to start. Whomever is in the photo typically does not have rights to the photo unless they have a signed contract with the photographer for them. For example, when I shoot weddings, the newlywed couple typically gets to own the photos, but I retain my right to use the photos for my own website, ads, and such.

Bottom line...if I was in your shoes, free stuff ain't gonna cut it. Either they stop using that photo for advertising their products or they have to give you a cut of the profits. I feel very adamant about this because of what happened in a similar situation with my good friend Josh:

Thanks for the response Armin. I did have a watermark on that image, but he cropped it out. That's pretty messed up and even though my brother's now satisfied I still feel "used". I'm going to be contacting him... that's just wrong. He claims that he "tried" contacting the owner, but I never got any PMs. That's crazy what happened to Josh though... wow.

The fact that he cropped out your watermark shows premeditation in the fact that he knew that he didn't own the photo, yet he went ahead and used it anyway and cut out the part that shows you own it. Go after him hard...it doesn't matter if he's a small business or what. Lesson should be learned on his part.

As far as having the vehicle as the subject, should I have shown more of the vehicle's side? I only ask because it's a cc I recently received, and my argument was that in my eyes, where the vehicle was going was just as important as the vehicle itself at a dragstrip, especially with the wheels in the air. Your take?

I think you are right in this scenario. Not having the room for the car to "move into" would have lost the impact of the photo. Nice job!

Ummm yeah I think the fact that you're obviously on a drag strip and the car's doing a wheelie is more than enough to not deem more of the side of the car in the shot being necessary. The angle also works well in my eyes since you can see the thickness of the rear tires.

Not bad...I'm sure the exposures might've been a bit better at a later time of day, thus you wouldn't need as much vignetting. The first two have the car at kinda awkward angles...they're not quite level, which is throwing off my eyes. I like the last one the best, although I probably wouldn've positioned the car facing inward rather than outward.

You are exactly correct. Allowing leading room in front of an object that we perceive as moving in a certain direction makes the image seem more natural. Chopping it off too close to the car would create an uneasy feeling- effective in certain situations, but not something that you'd want in a photo of this nature. You made the right call.

(Added later) That 200mm ƒ2 is amazing...

That it is, and in more ways than one. When I had my 80-200 ƒ2.8 AFD I was never happy with the softness at the far end of the car, so naturally I thought that shooting at the same FL (200mm) but at an even lower ƒ2 I'd definitely have to composite an ƒ4 subject over an ƒ2 background to get the sharpness front-to-back that I was looking for. Not so! This lens is so damn sharp that even @ ƒ2 the rear is sharper than what it was with my old 200 @ ƒ2.8. This one little detail in itself makes the lens worth the coin.

Yeah, the contrast looks way too extreme on this one....you have some really dark darks and some really bright brights.

I think the car's just a little too close to the bottom of the frame on the first shot, but the second shot is quite nice. I think you cut off the car at the proper spot, but I'm not sure how I feel about the front end reaching all the way a little past the half-way point in the frame. It might look better if it extends more or extends less, but I'm not really certain at this point. Still looks good though
