Default HELP with possibly compressor oil leak?

Ok so the other day I was driving and heard a wierd clicking sound in the engine bay and couldn't figure out what it was and by time I got home it stopped. So I was thinking something just got in there and was rattling up against something even though thats not really the sound I thought it was.
Then yesterday at a stop light my car just kind of died and I didn't even know untill I tried to go. It took a few seconds to start up with making kind of a popping/cracking sound. Then started right up. I drove it to work just fine and back home afterwards just fine. This morning when I was on my way to a shop to see if they could check it out I threw a CEL. Which in some ways I was cool with that since I was going to the shop anyway and they could see what it was. Since they were too busy I thought I'd stop by Autozone just to see what code it was throwing and possibly go from there. Well for some reason the maching would power with my car and they were telling me my fuse was either out or the connector didn't work. Anyway after being kind of bummed out and deciding to just kind of check around myself I noticed a bit of the black caked up around the front of the engine on the right side. so I took off the alternator cover and on the underside of it plenty of black cake and right under what I think is the compressor( what ever is to the right of the alternator) some black cake and also on the little pully tightner thing straight down between both of those.
Question is- what would be leaking oil around there and could any of those symptoms be related? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

a couple pics to help with description.
on the first picture you can see where I wiped it with a cloth on the compressor and under the compressor on the front of the engine where its like black plastic, there is black cake as well.

this shot is a close up of the pully tightner thing i was talking about

does the clicking rate increase with acceleration?

when the car is stopped, how low are the RPMs; do they jump? IE idle at 700 then spike 1500...

did you take your care to another auto store to read the computer?

how many miles are on the car?

what maintainance have you done in the last 20K miles? besides oil changes...

Concerning the oil spot, go to the car wash and clean the sh it out of your engine bay. After that you should see a fresh oil spot, populate, for troubleshooting.

Good luck

thanks for the feedback.
As far as the clicking sound, it went away but it didn't necessarly go with acceleration. Yesterday when I was wipeing off the compressor I would turn it a little counterclockwise and it kind of reminded me of the noise I was making so that's why I was thinking it was that. As far as all the black cake that's around that area, I started to think that maybe my car has an exhaust leak or my car is running rich somehow and that's what it is. Maybe clogged or covered an o2 sensor.
The car has 130,000 miles, I have had it since 120. I have only done 2 oil changes with synthetic oil.
The car does not jump in idle and idles around 6-700.
I took it to another autozone lastnight and the couldn't get a read as well because my bung wouldn't power the reader. He tested it on another car that was next to mine to make sure it wasn't the reader an it worked fine.
So if anyone has an engine steam cleaner or power washer could I come over and do some cleaning?
Also if anyone happens to have a reader to see if I'm running rich that would be great too.
Thanks for all help.
