I just got stationed at Holloman in beautiful Alamogordo lol

I have a 2006 Blue STI. I've been considering upgrading to a new STI, but I'm not sure if I'm going to at this point. I called the large dealership in Colorado to see what kind of pricing they offer and it isn't anything too great. Looks like they give invoice on new STI's, but after seeing Evanston Subaru in IL offer $1,100 under invoice on new 2013 orders I would have to try finding a better deal than what they can give up there. Their trade in offer on my car with only 65,000 miles was ridiculous as well.

What dealership is the best to deal with around this area?

What good/reputable tuner shops are around this area that you can trust with your car?

Thanks.

Hey! Glad to see you post up here!

We have 2 dealers sorta close, el paso and Albuquerque. Can I ask why you want to trade in your car? An 06 is a nice ride dude! I'd actually mod it instead of dumping money into a new one. Of course you may have your reasons.

Cam from Camtuning.com is the closest and best by far! He's in Albuquerque but comes to Cruces. He's mentioned quite a bit in this thread...he also posts in here too.

Thank you for the reply. There is nothing wrong with my car, but I'm just to the point of wanting something new. The seats are horribly uncomfortable in the 2004-2007 STI's, especially on road trips. I've heard they were better in the newer STI's, but don't know for sure. Of course I could go and buy aftermarket seats, but then I have to mess with the side airbags, etc. and that isn't what I'm looking to do.

When you say he comes to Las Cruces, is that to just visit the area or does he do actual work there? Does he just tune or install stuff as well? Maybe I will keep it who knows. Before moving here I lived in Michigan and had Oakos Automotive do a compression test and leakdown test before my warranty expired and all checked out good. I guess if I wanted to toss some money into mine and make it a beast I could. The cops are so bad in Alamogordo though it's probably not even worth it.

I've got an '11 STi and can meet you in Las Cruces if you want to go for a ride if that helps. Tomorrow I have to bring my son down to the orthodontist at 3:00 P.M. I make it down that way about once a week.

I appreciate the offer, but I probably won't be heading out that way until sometime later in the week. My girlfriend is flying into El Paso on Thursday and staying for a week and she wants to go see things. I've test drove a 2008 STI when they first came out and the interior did seem slightly better including the seats.

Are any of the local dealerships willing to haggle to under invoice on the price?

When I bought mine I couldn't find any dealerships in New Mexico and El Paso that had any. I ended up buying mine out of Lubbock and having it trailered to me. When it comes time to buy, if you take delivery here in New Mexico you can pay New Mexico TTL even if the dealerships are in the surrounding states (Oklahoma, TX, AZ, CO). That will save you some money (or offset delivery costs). It can also help you get several offers on the table by having multiple dealerships competing.
While your GF is here if you happen to drive up to T or C or beyond. Let me know. The offer for a ride still stands. Just PM me.

Thank you for the information. I TTL my cars in Florida since that is where my residence is. When I bought my 2006 Florida told me I didn't have to pay tax on it unless I was bringing it to Florida within the next 12 months. Hopefully things are still the same way because that would save me some nice money on a new car...

Gotcha. My bro had those seats and they were much better for aggressive driving but could be uncomfortable on a long ride. Def not too bad tho.

He has family here so he'll visit and tune down here and what not. If you need someone to install stuff just PM me. I've installed parts for a few local guys. If I could do it over again I think I'd buy an older STi (05-07) and go from there. I spent a lot of money on my car and a lot more to mod it, too much for such a nice/new car. That's just me tho

Well I have done all of the maintenance on my own, but there are certain tricky things like bleeding the brakes with all of the bleeder valves that may confuse me. One day I'm sure I will have to replace the clutch as well since it has 65,000 miles on it right now. It doesn't slip, but I can tell it feels different now than when I bought it. There are a ton of people on base with STI's and once I meet and get to know some I'm sure someone wouldn't mind giving me a hand on a weekend. Sometimes pizza goes a long way haha. There are great how to guides on the forums with pictures so what can go wrong, right?

Several folks expressed a desire to get an older STi. If you do decide to order a new one you shouldn't have too much trouble selling yours on this forum. good luck with whatever you decide

Too bad they are so far away lol. One guy has interest in 04-07's, but lives in Maryland. It's all good...the more I think about it the more I just don't care to mess with it. Mine is paid off so I can keep it and not have to dish $15,000 out or I can try finding a good deal on a new one and hopefully get a decent amount on the sale. I don't know what used STI's go for in this area to be honest...

I would be fine with taking good to very good condition on private party sale value of KBB. I just don't feel like dealing with the hassle of selling it because if I sell it I have no car and then I have to try dealing with dealerships that aren't local. If someone walked up to me and said hey would you be willing to sell it that would be sweet, but this isn't a perfect world

Post up a FT (For Trade) and see what happens. There's quite a few guys in the surrounding states. It couldn't hurt.

I was wondering what oil and oil filter you guys use? I've read the threads and everything but just wondering about your personal opinion? And I'm sure most of you do it yourself right? Or do you take it to a shop?

I use STP filters from autozone and diesel oil. Also I do the changes myself, there's no way in the world I'd ever take my car to a shop to have them do my oil....especially an STi. Guaranteed they'd try to rally the car lol

I use German Castrol 0W30 in my STI. I always have...

I've used Subaru, K&N, Bosch, and PureONE filters.

This thread still alive? I decided to keep my current STI for a couple more years or so. Maybe Subaru will introduce some positive changes in the STI in a year or two. I'll be flushing my brakes/clutch with some ATE blue here soon and replacing the rotors. I'm worried about those caliper bolts though since so many people have had trouble with them. I haven't removed the bolts since I've owned the car and honestly I don't think anyone has removed them. Anyone have any positive experiences removing the caliper bolts? Wish me luck.

The thread has a heartbeat of a 95 year old man, hahaha.

Cool, I'd do the same thing. I did my fluid change without an issue. The bolts weren't too bad but the rotors were a different story. That took most of our time (maybe 5-10min per rotor).

Since you're in there if you don't have SS braided lines you could do those too! Pretty cheap if you ask me
